Audio help

So, a lot of my audio components have started to give me some touble in my 03 FX35. The front right dash speaker is either blown or just sounds really distorted, the sub is intermittent, and the 6 disc cd changer wont always play a cd (it clicks on cds and skips over tracks, doesnt matter if the cd is brand new or not). Now, Im not looking to spend thousands on a new system or anything, I just want to replace the components with stock pices but dont want to pay a Infiniti tech the $120 per hour to tell me what I already know.

Is there anyplace that I havent found that sells the stock sub and speakers or anything that i can just have somebody else put in for me? Or, what would be the best bet to fix the sub problem if not? If I did swap for something other than bose, would I have to change all of the other components such as amps and re-run the wiring? Thanks for your time.

There are a few others here that may answer this question as well. Bose is definitely designed for quality but not at high volume at extended play. Although Bose may claim such. we know better.

Your sub may not actually be having problems but may actually be the Bose amp itself, if you are hearing intermittent play. if you plan on upgrading, then replace the speakers anyway and that should give you an indication on any sound issues short of having and audio tech test the entire system. speaker replacement is pretty straight fwd and simple for most. also there are a few write ups here with the Bose wiring diagram. just like most aftermarket amps when the go, you'll have intermittent play as well.

Now if it is the speakers are a lil problematic and distorted there are many replacement sources for what you are willing to pay in regards to your budget. For me personally I used Boston 3.5 replacements for the dash and rear pillar speakers, and infinity ref 6.5 to replace the door speakers. other replacement can be MB Quartz, Polk, Alpine, kenwood etc... you should be able to find stock subs on ebay if that is an option as well. but they are not always cheap. I have both a new and used stock sub. Research first before engaging in to stock replacements.

upgraded replacement speakers will not sound as responsive as your stock Bose with your stock amp. which may cause you to replace the stock amp with an aftermarket amp to improve response and overall quality. but it can be done, based on your components of choice

For your head unit, first try using a disc cleaner to see if that clears up any issues at all. Hopefully that is all that will be required. other then that, it could mean replacing the factory unit. or go aftermarket.

Overall audio upgrades can be a lil expensive, in most cases especially with installs if you are not a DIY kind of person. Like most say you get what you pay for. But here on IS I'm sure we can walk you through it if you are willing to give it a shot. I hope this helps you some what.

I appreciatte the feedback. I talked to a stereo guy and he said that Bose is a totally different animal. He said that you cant just replace one speaker for an aftermarket one. Basically, if your going to do one of them, you have to all of them or it wont work. As for the head unit, I tried the lens cleaner cd and it even skipped through that. I like the six disc cd changer in the dash and would opt for another one if I could. However, I dont really want to lose the use of all of the buttons on the dash if I were to change it for an aftermarket. Any thoughts on that? Also, how hard would it be to upgrade to the navigation system and also have it be dvd compatible? Maybe installing the dvd player into the glovebox or something like that?

I've replaced the front two (L + R) dash speakers with Infinity Reference speakers and the stock sub with a 12"

Not a single problem with the system. I had the same issue with one of the front dash speakers going out.

Your best bet would be Infinity Reference 5002 I believe for the front dash speakers and Infinity Kappa, don't remember the model numbers, for the 6.5" door speakers if you choose to go that route. You will need spacers for those, however. They're sold on eBay by the zenclosures guy who makes them for 350Z's.

You can always swap out your little analog clock for a flip up screen as many have done already...

Hey Cube...are you saying that your after-market speakers worked fine with the Bose set up?

I thought Bose ran their own "network" and have speaker impedance different than after-market ones.

Thanks for the help again. I apprecciate it. Yes, I am in the Navy. Im stationed up in Oak Harbor at the moment but am deploying to Afghan fairly soon. I am trying to get some work done on my FX before I leave and then buying an Audi S4 when I come back. Not to worry, Im keeping the FX as well! Anybody got any websites for places that have good aftermarket parts for the FX series? I am looking for a good billet grille and a couple of other cosmetic things as well.
