My first post and I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, but I could not figure out where to post it...

I got turned on to the FX45/FX50 about 2 weeks ago and since have been extensively looking at them...here are my questions and I thank you very much for your responses as they will provide vital information for me to make this decision.

I am currently driving a 2001 4runner with 163k miles on it, just did the suspension and the truck is solid by all accounts and should run well for quite some time. I like its functionality but would prefer a vehicle that handles better and is more powerful and the FX45/50 seem to fit the bill perfectly.

I have test driven both, I like the FX45, but really would prefer the FX50, problem is the FX50 at around $30k-$35k is out of my budget at this time and probably will be for about 4-5 years until depreciation brings them down into the mid-teens...but by all accounts they are more fun, faster, and have more amenities.

Locally in Southern California (on saturday 7/19) I have lined up a private party sale for $16,000 on a 2006 FX45 with only 81,000 miles, Black on Black in excellent condition new tires, w/ every available option including chrome wheels, DVD player overhead, Navigation etc.

not having been looking for the vehicles for very long, I am unsure of the demand and market for the FX45...I drive about 8k miles per year

My questions are as follows:

1. KBB has the value at $20k; but KBB is not always accurate; is $16,000 a good deal for a 2006 loaded with 81k?

2. for those that have had or driven both, should I grab the FX45 I have a shot at now, or should I just hang tight with my 4Runner and grab and FX50 in a few years when prices come down into my budget?

thank you so much for time and responses...

Hello and welcome.
That price for the FX45 seems fair not really knowing condition. Plenty can be found for more, others for a little less than that. So, if it is clean and well cared for from a private party, I'd be inclined to pick it up tomorrow. If it were off a used car lot and not clean, then I would shop around for a clean one at any price.
Thinking of depreciation, with your low miles the value would drop less than $1k/year over the next few years. So if you sold it in 4 years for $12k, that would be a good/fair price, you can then upgrade to a FX50, and be a winner all round. (Now if it is really clean now and stays clean, you might even be able to sell in 2, 3, or 4 years for the same $16k price!)
Do it.

Sweet, thanks for the advice. from the pics, description, and owners claims, it is really clean...we will see when we get there.

crazy thing thing though, I was particularly looking for 06+ slightly better performance #s and supposed better suspension, and there are only 2 on craigslist in so cal both listed at about $19k and not much on autotrader especially at the mileage this one has, you mentioned there are a lot out there but I do not see hardly any, I would think that would make them desirable and in demand, but for some reason it does not seem that much in demand since the owner is dropping his asking from $18500 to $16000 for my purchase...I just have not been in the market long enough to actually know how in demand they are.

If its a clean vehicle...mechanically and exterior wise, I would jump on it.
Get a mechanic ti check it out...if it passes...u shud get it. An 06 45 with that many miles and in that condition is rare.

There are not that many 45s out there...when I was looking for one 5 yrs ago and I'm also in Socal...I couldn't fine any.

Cool thanks,

good point...

might be a dumb question, but how do I go about getting a mechanic to check it out? I do not know the area and I am travelling about 2 hours to pick it up...

does the rarity add to the value or detract from it as people will just move on to find something else?

The rare factor could add a little bit to the price, but not much. Truthfully, of course the seller could put whatever high or low price he wants. For any unknown FX45, 03-08, I would expect an advertised price of $10k~$28k. Of all cars, FX is a less common model, and I've heard that about 10% of FX's are 45's. Usually when prices are compared, the V8 does not factor in much added cost on the several year old used market. Being more rare does not detract people - there are just less people looking for them.

It's all about how u really...anyone on this forum loves the FX line so we are all obviously biased but that seems like a good deal. I would ask the owner to let u take it to a nearby Infiniti dealership and have them do a multi point inspection...wont cost that much for peace of mind.

Its a good buy. I purchased a 2005 FX45 for 17,000 in 2012 with 72,000. Great buy I just traded for a 2009 FX50s. They are all keepers. I drive about 10k a year due to my using other vehicles. I will keep a variant of this Infiniti for the rest of my life.:iS::good:

I bought one today (in Canada granted prices are typically higher for cars) 2006 fx45, with tech package, silver 90000 miles on it. Took it to infiniti for the inspection only needed rear rotors and a balance. Cost me 200$ for the inspection. The car cost me 16,900$
