Another Possibility as to why the Front Lip falls off

I notice at the bottom where those black plastic screw clips go through those tabs that supports the underside of the front lip has developed stress cracks around the hole. It would make sense since all the weight of the lip is actually put on the bottom that it would start developing cracks. Man this front lip is made crappy I swear for an OEM part. The plastic tabs are made so flimsy. I'm sure when it gets cold and the plastic becomes brittle along with the added weight that cracks form. I also mentioned in another thread with pics that those side hooks where those plastic moldings attach to have a habit of breaking too. I attached pictures of those stress cracks by the way. I can see those tabs breaking which probably is what causes it to come flying off.

I know some are going to say that yours is fine. But the simple fact of the matter is that I along with 4 or 5 other forum members have had issues with this front lip breaking and coming off. I also have gotten a few PM's from members about these same issues. I've been having this lip since like 2011 so age probably plays a factor. 6uryzehu.jpga4apu8ym.jpg

That's how mine looks when ripped off. This is why I wanted to figure out a way to bolt them on more securely. Car pretty much sits now but I have to drive 6.5 hours home next week for break so hopefully I have no problems. May add some extra hardware for the trip, although it was fine coming up (If you recall it was in the summer heat and high speeds that my lip came off last)

These are too much of a closeup…can you point out where you are talking about from a farther shot? I'd like to check my front end in that location.

Those were good points Aaron, I'll keep a close eye on that and see what I can do to improve it when I install my spoiler this spring. I never had a problem with my other one but I was probably lucky.

Here are a few more pics of the brackets he's talking about Jonas. You will recognize them here.
I had these on file from my Lip install on my 09

I saw that, those brackets and plastic screws are pretty flimsy and not too solid. I remember I was not real impressed when I installed them originally.

Thanks Wayne. That second pic almost looks like a small crack or it's a scratch. I'll have to check it out. So what are the thoughts for a reinforcement?

I've actually wanted to do this upgrade, but do you think I should hold off? I've seen a few other front lip options as well, but now I'm not sure how to proceed... is there a better vendor or site to use going forward? Has a poll been created to show where people got theirs? Thanks! -Mike

It seems like the front aero lip has been hit or miss. I've had mine now for almost a year and everything seems okay. I'm actually taking a five hour trip to go skiing in Vermont and now I'm freaked out that my lip is going to come crashing off at 80 mph on the highway! I'm definitely going to inspect mine thoroughly around those failure points to ensure it's okay. Don't hold off! Go for it. It really makes a huge difference aesthetically! See for yourself!

Get the lip, I had mine on my last 2nd Gen for a couple of years and I drove across Canada and the US with it, no problem.
I have one for my FX50 that I am installing in the Spring.

Maybe putting a 3/8 washer over the tab and then the clip pushed through both....or putting in a retainer and a bolt, or maybe some type of toggle. How about epoxy a washer on each side of the tab. Im juggling a bunch of ideas before I put mine on permanently

when I had my lip put on the dealer used not only the rivets/screws but they also used a very strong epoxy to secure it even better. so far no problems here in the big city with the fridgid cold/hot summers and busted streets.

If you have to remove the bumper, does the lip have to come off first? Or can it be removed with bumper as one piece?

I was thinking, instead of using the retainers at the top of the lip, what if we drill a couple holes and use these clips.

Should kinda blend in.
