This is my first post on this site. I have a 2004 Infiniti FX 35. I have serious bubbling in the dashboard surface ... it started in the past year. It started in a small area and it has spread. I keep the vehicle in the garage, out of direct sunlight, so was perplexed as to what was causing it. In speaking with someone at a body shop, he directed me to internet sites where this defect has been discussed widely, as it turns out to be a common problem. I was told that Infiniti extended the warranty to cover this problem (obviously they were admitting the existence of the problem). When I contacted Infiniti Customer Service, they told me the warranty had expired a few months ago; they further claimed that they mailed notification to owners about the warranty extension. I did not receive any such notification, and have learned that Infiniti did not have my correct, current address, nor did they have my VIN on file. Infiniti now wants to avoid any responsibility in this matter. I felt insulted that they further told me they would replace the dash surface at a cost of almost $1000. The inept customer service rep, not carefully choosing her words, told me Infiniti "could not afford" to replace my dash. How amusing. Do they think I can "afford" to do it? Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I should proceed?

Welcome!!

I hate to say it but your out of luck with getting them to honor it on a 9 year old car. Not to sound mean but if it started in the past year how come you just didnt go to the dealer in the first place? If the warranty just expired a few months ago it would have been covered then. Anytime I have an issue the first thing on my mind is get an opinion from the dealer first.

My moms Nissan had a well known timing chain issue and we tried to get them to cover it under warranty just after the extended warranty expired. Their excuse was that I was pretty much out of luck on it and because of the age they could care less pretty much. Infiniti customer service is exactly the same.

It is a well known and documented issue with the first gen, i would hope that with the right prompting Infiniti will cover your dash replacement as it is the right thing to do. if you are getting piush back keep going up the chain......

And, welcome to iS!

You can always see if you can find one on eBay, I've seen a few dash replacements on there or try a cover also on eBay.

Did you actually go to a dealer or call Infiniti directly? Sometimes dealers can get a goodwill replacement. But the warranty was extended to 8 years 96K. I'm honestly surprised it took that long to start happening. Almost every instance had it happen much sooner. My '07 had it happen in '10; I almost bought an '08 that already had signs of it in '09. It's an issue w/ the adhesive and high heat does tend to accelerate the process. Unfortunately, if they don't do it on goodwill, you're out of luck. It would be hard to argue that 8 years wasn't enough time.
