Aftermarket nav on an 05 FX35

Hi peeps, I've been having an ever increasing headache w/aftermarket units for my new(used) 05FX. I currently have the 2-tone screen on it and I'm looking at my options, which seem to be very limited to none existent.

I was looking first at the kenwood GNX8120, but from what I understand I need to keep the stock screen, someone said it was possible to move the stock screen elsewhere but that would still leave all the cabling behind.

Then I've read to put in the garmin GVN53 in there but again I run in that I have a 2-tone screen.

Is the best option to put in a GVN53, get a screen where the 2tone is, and then move the 2tone screen w/cables somewhere else? What a headache! Thanks all!

depends how crazy you want to go. ideal would be to put a screen at the stock location & then move the orange screen elseware...

if you move it down to the clock area that's probably the easiest, as no harnesses need to be extended & it'll reach there just fine. another option is to move it overhead to where the sunglass holder is. this is more complicated as it will require some fabrication to the overhead console for it to look good & you will need to extend the harnesses, but this is probably the ideal place to put it if you have that ability.

sorry, not familiar with the kenwood you mentioned, but if your going to go through all these hassles I would think you should be looking at multimedia entertainment setups more than just navigation setups, personally I would recommend alpine as there def the best, if you're going to go through this much trouble may as well make it as good as can be & add more than just navigation at that point. moving the stock screen to the clock area is pretty simple really.

another option if nav is your primary concern is to just mount a color nav screen overhead in the overhead console, this requires no altering of the dash at all but will still require some fabrication to have that overhead screen look like it belongs there...

How would they fit the 2tone into the clock area?

My fiance and I are looking for something to have blue tooth, rear view cam, dvd player, etc.

The thing about the entertainment setup is that they take a lot of space, moving the screen is one thing but fitting it in where the old screen is might be an issue.

Thanks for the help.

the orange does indeed fit where the clock is, been done before.

as far as fitting another color mm type setup where the stock screen is, you can actually mount a double din head unit there, but it will take a bit of bezel fabrication & minor altering in the dash, mainly of the ac ducts... maybe not a job for a novice but not very hard either really.

a great way to go but gonna be a bit pricey too is to look into alpines hub system, then you can use an alpine touchscreen at the stock location without too much fabrication at all & it'll play through the stock system if you want it to.

viet (rookie) did a double din alpine full head unit in the stock screen location, see that here: Alpine Multimedia system - InfinitiScene.com , towards the end of that thread is where the upper screen gets replaced... of course iof you like the screen down low where his first one is, that's a pretty popular mod too, but I'd rather have the color screen more up front & center really

I can't find any pictures of the orange screen in the clock location right now...

What kind of unit in the main dash is that?

What kind of screen do you have in the main in dash slot?
