Got a aftermarket cold air intake that need the filter replaced ASAP. Not sure what the dimensions are because filter is inside modify OEM air filter cover to make it look stock.

looking to replace the air filter and remove the box all together. need to find out what are some simple ways to determine what size K&N Filter I would need to replace the old one? Not looking fwd to the whole trail and error phase just yet.

Cold Air intake made by Somato (I think) and it was orig made for 350Z's.

Is it a cone filter or a panel?

I have researched this subject quite thoroughly. In a nutshell, you want the biggest filter you can fit into the space you have, up to a rating of 450cfm. The stock size (panel) K&N filter flows freely up to about 330cfm, if I remember correctly, which is far less than a 3.5L motor sucks @ 6500rpm. (It pulls about 432cfm @7000rpms) The K&N cone filter that comes with the Stillen CAI is rated higher than the drop in but is still restrictive at the upper end of the rpm range. Also, you have to assume that most of the time your filter isn't going to be perfectly clean, so over sizing it a bit is probably a good idea, and certainly won't hurt anything.
