60k Shock Replacement

Hey guys I am looking to do the shock replacement on my FX. She has about 130000km and the service has never been done before.

I am hesistant however on why the forums keep telling me to do it after 60K miles. I phoned infiniti and my rep (who i know personally as I used to work at this dealership) said he has never sold the struts or shocks. And he asked me why I want to replace them on such a new car. I told him because the internet told me to. (lol)

He basically said that he would only replace them if they were leaking or making noise.

Just wondering what everyones reasoning for doing the shock replacement so early is?

I am going to be installing my H&R's and its going to be done at the dealer so I want to do the shocks (if necessary) at the same time. But if its not necessary I would prefer to skip it.
 
Anyone who is mechanically inclined knows shocks internally deteriorate overtime. Especially around 80k. On a sports suspension, shocks usually wear quicker then on a toyota or lexus non sport models. I would replace them, you will feel the difference.

My right front strut went bad at 70k, and others will also chim in that they noticed a difference as well
 
The recommended service life is around 60,000 miles I did mine around 80,000 miles.I would find a reputable mechanic to do the install the dealer will charge way too much. I changed mine out when I did the H&R install also the strut bearings. Although yours are probably fine now if it were me I would change them out during the spring install because most of the cost is labor and you wouldn't want to pay that again later.

Yeah, I guess I was asking since our 2007 Camry has about 215000km and the shocks are still going, but I guess the sport suspension portion makes sense.

I am only doing the labour at the dealership because they still give me staff rate (half off hourly rate), plus this particular dealer has the john bean alignment rack and balancing machine for the GTR's so they can do it all for me.

I am ordering the pieces off IS's very own Zebra555. :)
 
Replacing them before they make noise is absolutely absurd and a waste of money. I've seen people get 200k out of suspension components. So many variables here. Don't waste money until necessary.
 
There is no rebound on this car, try to push down top of the hood and fender. Now go find a toyota camry and push it down see how easy it will rebound hence the suspension including shocks and springs are designed to last. My neighbor has a 93 toyota camry with 285k miles and his still on his original shocks. He says it feels the same since day one. Now on our stiff harsh suspension try going that long

While I was in the same mindset as you prior to making this thread, I trust these other guys a little more than you... Besides even if it only helps a little whats a couple hundred bucks for preventative maintenance.

I rather do this now at 85k miles when I am already paying the labour to do the lowering springs then have to come back and do it later and pay the labour again.
 
It's a no brainer since you're installing lowering springs and you're at 85K. Definitely replacing the shock and struts while you at it doing the springs. No reason to pay for the labor again and another alignment. BTW, not sure about alignment service over there, but here in my area, Firestone offers lifetime alignment for $179. I would go that as well. Just go for 3 alignments and you got your money pay and then some. :)
 
I have a local dealership that will do them afterhours for a 6 pack of beer... :)

I am getting:

-Lowering springs installed
-New shocks and struts installed.
-4 25mm spacers installed
-Summer wheels re-balanced and inflated with nitrogen and installed
-a full alignment

all for $200 plus tax.

Cant complain. He said he would also do the takeda air intake install for me but I want to do that myself... I told him if for any reason I have trouble with it, Ill bring it back though and he has to do it for free, and he said okay. Lol.

Then I guess after about 6 months after the springs are fully settled another alignment will cost me a 6 pack. :). I dont know how my car is going to settle or when as my springs came off another FX after about 6 months of use, and now they have been sitting for 6 months.
 
I am around 65k and my ride is definitely harsher than it's ever been. Might be time for some new kyb's.

Yep my rear end jiggles and is loose. Time for a butt lift.

I have the KYB coming in Tue, and already ordered the shock bushings (upper and lower) for the worn ones I've never replaced. I haven't had to replace my front struts....running strong after 135k. This is the second set of rear shocks for me.
