As a FX45 newbee, I could really use some advice.
I recently purchased a 2003 FX45 with chromed OEM wheels and 265/50R20 tires and I'm thinking of upgrading to some 22" wheels/tires and I'm hoping to have all my ducks in a row before taking the plunge.
______________________ New 20" wheel attributes ___ Old 22" wheel attributes
______________________ --------------------------- ___ ----------------------------
Size: _____________________________ 22" x 8.5" ________________ 20" x 8"
Offset: _____________________________ +20mm ___________________ +40mm
Hub bore: ____________________________ 83mm __________________ 66.1mm
Bolt pattern: ________________________ 5x114.3" _______________ 5x114.3"
Back spacing: __________________________ 5.54" ________________ ??????
_________________________ Old tire attributes ______ New tire attributes _______ Difference
_________________________ -------------------- ______ --------------------- ______ ------------
Size: __________________________ 265/50R20 ____________ 265/35R22
Diameter ___________________________ 30.43" ________________ 29.3" __________ -1.13"
Width _____________________________ 10.43" ________________ 10.43" _____________ 0"
Circumference ______________________ 95.61" ________________ 92.06" __________ -3.55"
Sidewall height _______________________ 5.22" _________________ 3.65" __________ -1.56"
Revolutions per mile __________________ 662.7 ________________ 688.26 __________ 25.55
Speed difference at _____________________ 65mph ______________ 62.59mph _______ -2.41mph
My concerns are:
1. A) Do I need a hub centric ring or spacer?
B) Any suggestions on brand or type?
C) At this hub bore size difference am I asking for trouble?
2. If I purchase new TPMS' from ebay that claim to be compatible with my FX45, are these fairly universal?
Or do I need to be more discriminating with my choice of TPMS?
3. Is it correct to assume this offset difference is the equivalent of adding a 20mm wheel spacer?
4. With this 20mm offset difference together with the tire size differences and the wheel well seem generously oversized,
A) Am I at risk of making contact or damaging the wheel wells on tight turns?
B) Am I at risk of making contact with the outer wheel well edges when encountering serious road bumps or holes?
C) What if I have several passengers and 4 luggage bags in the rear?
5. Am I overlooking anything and do you think I'll run into any issues and if so, do you have alternative suggestions?
6. Will the disc brake calipers and everything else behind the wheel clear without issue?
7. The FX already has a pretty firm ride already. Am I asking for some serious discomfort and/or potentially prematurely wearing misc. suspension parts with the lower profile tires?
Thanks for your help,
