My 2004 FX has a Parrot 9200 for handsfree calling and a Nissan iPod adapter for music. The Parrot integrates downstream of the headunit, which is horrible. No control of volume or tone from the headunit and worse, no fader control to push more signal to the rear and thus, the subwoofer. So my solution was keeping both systems.

Hoping someone can share insight regarding more recent bluetooth systems compatible with the gen 1 FX and how they perform. Do any of the newer bluetooth systems allow volume and tone control from the headunit?

thank you.

I am looking into this as well. I want to add Kinivo BCT455, doing research on it. it's relatively inexpensive and you can pair 2 devices to it. It's great for pairing up the phone for calls and the tablet for music. But you do need the AUX in the vehicle and for that I already have the isimple (came with the car).
I read a bunch of reviews and they all seem pretty positive, I just haven't read anything about volume controls and such. I didn't even know this could be an issue with the bluetooth devices. I guess I have to do some more research.

I using Dice Mediabridge for over 4 years now. Its been good 95% of the time. There are times, that it simply don't have any sound out of it or pair up with phone. I have to disconnect the cable that comes form the radio to it to reset it. I put the unit in the glove compartment for ease to "reset" it. Also, be aware that the bass is low if you just play it straight from a regular smart phone media player. I play my using PowerAmp app and sounds good enough.
