2008 Infiniti FX35 Best Cold Air Intake System?

Which Cold Air Intake kit is the best for the FX35's? I am looking for best performance of the air intake system. Best flow and best for actual cooler air. No a big fan of the aluminum piping kits due to allows to trap the heat more than the composite piping kits. But just want to see what has been best performance gains of the different air intake systems available.

I don't believe you will see any noticeable gains with a cold air intake such as the ztube or similar. I don't think there are any gains for that matter. For gains you may want to look at a plenum spacer or exhaust.

I'm using Stillen CAI kit with Z-tube.
Performance wise, i don't think CAI effects much in terms of gains but it sure helps especially as above mentioned you also have all the other breather mods done + the CAI system. GL!

They dont do much for gains, I've been through 2 z-tubes, a Takeda, and now using a DC sports intake system. They dress up the bay pretty nice and give it a little more growl.

I did the $40 ebay special. Doesn't seem to give any performance but then again, it didn't hurt performance either. Sounds great when you open it up though! Hahahhah, Sound is the biggest improvement outta the intakes. Get a spacer if you wanna help increase performance but even that isn't huge.

Any intake where the filter is under the hood will be the same. You're pulling the same hot air. No one has dyno results showing definitively that an intake produces power over stock. Buy it for looks and sound. And a composite vs. aluminum pipe won't make any difference in heat soak. It's a very short tube and your intake manifold is right on top of your engine and aluminum.

If you want to get custom, you can probably run your filter to your bumper in front of the radiator. I've considered buying some aluminum mandrel bends and a few couplers and trying this out. Just have to trim the radiator support a little bit, but there is enough room for an intake tube. And there is enough room for some filters behind the grille. I don't think this would make a ton of difference either, but I think it would be a cool project.

Stillen CAI with K&N cone filter and LMS Z-tube. I also have the MD 5/16 copper isothermal plenum spacer. I feel the combo gave the car better responsiveness VS stock on WOT. Not that big of a gain but noticeable enough.

Did you install them together or at different times? I installed a Powerlab 1/2" spacer when I had the OEM intake and it made a noticeable difference. When I installed a Z - tube and HKS drop in filter, no difference other than sound. Then I swapped OEM airbox for JWT Pop charger and again zero difference other than slight difference in sound.

The CAI and the spacers were installed 1 week apart. I used to have the Stillen z-tube but the accordion type tube that connects the Stillen z-tube probably cause a tad bit of pressure loss from the power duct. At least that's what a lot of people seems to think. I switch to LMS long tube that eliminates the accordion tube just recently.

I dont know if the slight gain is placebo or perceived since I did not really do the dyno.

You can pass in SoCal with an aftermarket one...I pass all the time. Just need the CARB sticker...it will not affect smog

Not sure about best but the lms cai is sweet. Great sound. Not loud until you wot. As for gains, it's hard to tell since i had the lms cai installed the same time as my md copper iso thermal spacer. Old piece that is very hard to find

Anybody have a stock FX35 intake for sale or for rent so I can pass smog in SoCal?

I have one but you're too far

I had a ztube and JWT Pop charger and loved it. I was going to sell my FX and put that package on ebay and sold it. Then, I decided to keep my FX so bought one of the $40.00 Ebay specials and it sucked. Did not fit, and very little growl, so went back to Ztube and JWT Pop and love it. No performance gains though.
