Our cupholder door in the center console will no longer stay closed and is always in the open position. It appears the spring/latch mechanism has failed. Is this easy to fix and or are there new parts readily available?

Thanks

I'm just wondering if this is a common issue with these cars or not? Maybe I'll call the dealer and see what they say.

The same thing happened with mine. There was a plastic gear inside that had broken. I went onto ebay and found a used cupholder assembly and took it apart and replaced in a half hour or so.

You may want to take the console apart and take a look to see if the spring that push the latch out to catch the cup holder cap/cover maybe misaligned.

Ok, thanks. I'll see if I can figure out how to disassemble this thing, There are 2 small screws on the door part, I guess I'll start there.

I sent you more details. You'll need to take the console apart, meaning taking off the shift handle and removing the whole top piece, then you can remove the cupholder assembly itself.

Thanks smijus! Got it all fixed (for the moment). The problem was, the small screw came loose that holds the arm to the locking mechanism (i forgot to take a pic while I had it all disassembled). I repositioned the arm and firmly tightened down the screw and it now works again. However, it seems the screw may come loose again over time. If it does, I will try some lock-tite and hopefully that will do the trick permanently (i didn't have any at the moment). But so far so good!
