Hi everyone

I have a '06 FX35 that came with OEM Chrome 18s and I want to spice things up but the tires are brand new (< 10k miles on them) so I'm thinking of just swapping out the chrome 18s to aftermarket and reuse the tires.
I don't have any experience on replacing wheels on an SUV so any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Tried searching but most aftermarket wheels people have are 20+

Also anyone have any ideas how much the chome 18s weigh? I know anything 'chrome' is heavier than stock from what i've been told.

OEM early 350z track wheels are 18.5lbs. I have those on my g35.

I would just wear down the ones u have now and get bigger wheels when its time to replace. Or do a summer/winter swap

I would just keep the 18"s. They look fine, the tires are 60 series so any aftermarket rims will look weird with a tire that tall. No matter how nice the rims are, the 60 series tire will make them look funny. And you're not likely to see any performance gains with lighter wheels. The tire makes up a greater part of the total weight when the rim is smaller. So whereas getting lightweight 20"s or 22"s will make a big difference, getting lightweight 18"s will make much less difference since the tire is still heavy (18" tires weigh more than larger size tires since the sidewall is taller). And all the weight savings are closer to the center which makes less difference in rotational weight.

Save your money, wear the tires out and when it's time to upgrade, get something nice then. Always better to wait and do something right than to just do something for the sake of doing something.

Thank you so much for the insight in this matter. I never thought about how tall the tires would look on aftermarket rims. I guess I won't be buying new rims for now. Maybe in 5 years when the tires are worn out. (P.S the FX isn't driven much since we have compact cars for daily).
