I'm having issues with my 14 infiniti qx60 hybrid a/c. So I noticed a bright green puddle where my evaporator drains one day. I thought it was coolant but my coolant is blue. I pulled the panel inside the car and the drain tube and realized it was an a/c leak from the evaporator. I called Infiniti and they told me $2800 to replace. Not in my budget at the time. So since the a/c still cooled I just used it as needed since it was winter still.
About two months later the weather warmed up and I noticed the cooling wasn't as cold so I topped it off with one can of just r134, no stop leak stuff. The car was nice and cold again. 3 weeks ago we are taking a 4 hour drive to drop of my daughter at college and half way there the vents start blowing hot air. I turn of the a/c and found an oreillys to try and top it off again. The compressor clutch was still engaging but, nope. The low pressure was reading 100 and the system would take in no freon. We just had to deal with driving around in 104 degree weather with no a/c for a week.
I took it to a shop when we returned home. He hooked it up to his machine and evacuated and tried to recharge. That didn't work he told me to replace my expansion valve, so I ordered one and started to put it in. While I was doing that I stuck a scope cam in the housing assembly and saw my evaporator was full of black dirt and leaves and green dye. I tore out the dash and replaced the evaporator and expansion valve.
I brought the car back to the shop and he vacuumed and recharged the system. This time it took the charge. I check the vents and they are still blowing hot. I have him evacuate the system because the compressor is shot. I found a brand new 4 seasons compressor and drier at autozone and put it in.
I should also mention when I pulled the evaporator there was zero oil in. When I pulled the old compressor and drier there was zero oil in either part.
I checked the oil in the new compressor and it had just 2 oz in it. 4 seasons says they come with 3oz. I replaced the oil with the new oil. The same amount that came out. I bring the car back to the shop and he vacuums and recharged with 1.76 lbs of r134 and 6oz of oil. Probably to much since my system only takes 7.9 oz of oil total. The a/c is blowing cold again and the pressures were normal for the ambient temperature. Sorry don't remember the exact readings.
I leave the shop and noticed that when I turn the a/c on, a couple seconds after the clutch engages, I hear a knocking/ chattering noise in the cabin from the engine compartment coming from where the compressor sits. I check the compressor and can kind of hear the noise but not as loud as in the cabin. I check the tensioner and surrounding pulleys with a stethoscope. Nothing. Definitely the new compressor making the noise.
I head back to the shop and he said it's fine. Aftermarket compressors are just noisy. I think he is annoyed with me at this point. To be fair he has been doing all this free of charge. The noise is not normal and it drives me nuts. I head to my friends shop and he let's me use his machine to evacuate my system. About 1.5oz of oil came out along with the the 1.76lbs of r134. I take out the compressor and drain it to check the oil. 2oz came out and it looked perfect. No debris or particles. Head to autozone and swap it with another brand new 4 seasons compressor. Check the oil on that one and again it has 2oz. Supposed to come with 3oz. I replace the oil with 2oz of new oil and put it in the car.
I go to my friends shop and we vacuum fo 40 minutes then charge to 1.76lbs but don't add the extra 1.5 oz of oil since the last guy put to much in. I start the car and the system blows cold. Low side at 35 and high side between 225 and 250 on a 88 degree day in California. Everything seemed good but that compressor noise is still there. Same exact noise as the first 4 seasons compressor. There is a new problem now also with the install of the 2nd new compressor. When shutting of the car there is a hissing sound that turns into a loud humming. I feel it's coming from the high side line. Sorry this I so long.
