Just purchased last week. I live at the top of a twisty turney! Long sweeps and hairpins. Here is my situation - whether the VDC is on or not - it activates and cuts back the throttle so severely I'm afraid I'm going to get rear ended. Is this the norm? The service manager blew me off like it was my fault.

It is normal mine does the same and I hate it. Trying to get in the habit of shutting it off after I start it up.

Welcome to iS!

What is causing it to activate? Braking hard, accelerating hard, turning hard?

VDC doesn't turn off completely, even with the VDC off light illuminated. It will still kick in if you trying to make a very sharp turn and start sliding, or if the ABS really kicks in. Only time I have ever experienced this is during Autocross on a slick surface and in the rain.

Sometimes the slip light will flash just to let you know the tires are spinning, which would probably already be obvious.

A hard turn is causing the VDC to be triggered. It is a shame. Great car but not for hard turns. My 1st auto was a 58 Austin Healy. I learned to drift in turns. Drove motorcycles for years. I love the curves!

The FX is a great car to be driven hard, but the sad truth is that it is still a heavy pig. If driven "correctly" (and I am in no way trying to disparage your driving skills) VDC will barely kick in. However, when thrown into corners and made to drift/slide, the traction control will kick in and keep it from breaking loose.

I found that my FX handled fantastically when I took her on the track, and even with VDC on, the SLIP light never lit up until I really cooked it on a corner and should have ended up in the grass if it hadn't.

Try the twisties again with a smoother approach and I am willing to bet you can take them quicker and sportier without the intrusion of the nannies.

Welcome to iS and enjoy all that the FX has to offer!
