11 FX50S Center Console ArmRest Debacle (Dealer)

So while waiting for my ATF fluid change on my 2011 FX50S. I figure I would humor myself and see what astronomical price I would get for a quote for my center console armrest. See my armrest (center console lid) is cracked and peeling. Now when I bought the vehicle they told me it was fully loaded and that the seats and areas for the console was all leather. So i ask for a price on the arm rest and they ask for my VIN. i give them the VIN and the say the armrest lid by itself is, wait for it... $500. I asked to repeat that and they repeated $500. They said its leather. I explained that well the one in my vehicle is not leather its some kind of vinyl covering. i went to the service advisor and he said he will take a look and take a picture once the servicing is done. We did that and he immediately went into well we can find one from another vehicle for you. i said I would appreciate that being that when i purchased the vehicle you guys told me it was all leather and when i try to find the price and they enter the VIN it comes up as leather but I dnt have leather. somethings not adding up.

So now when i call to check if they have found a replacement for it I keep getting dodged.. Im not paying $500 for an armrest even if it is leather. Secondly im curious as to what happened why the VIN shows it as leather but I have not leather.

Anyone can offer some advice on how i can best handle this and the dealer i would appreciate your input. Meanwhile Im scratching up my arm on this brittle cracked covering lol.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can approach this with the dealer ??? Or any other input that can help. I would appreciate it.

Im kind of waiting to get something I can use as ammo or at least know before i go back to them on how to handle this. so any input would be appreciated.

Your not alone i think all center consoles and door panels are vinyl you can see and feel the difference from the seats

Thanks I see that now. Thing is im trying to figure out why when i give my VIN they keep saying its coming up as the $500 leather replacement but they sold me the vehicle with the vinyl.

I don’t know if they will replace it as a sign of good faith unless you are still covered under warranty. You might as well replace it yourself with genuine leather from redlinegoods. A memeber here replaced it with an ebay seller and it turned out really good. Check out this thread.

Thanks krykcs. Good info I didnt even know this was an issue. I didnt think to search for that. Ill look into getting that. I still want to find out from the dealer whats going on with the leather lid in case i need to get something else replaced and i get the same bogus happening going on with the dealer again so im trying to get to the bottom of it.
 
I replaced mine last year with a great ebay purchase. I think I paid $60 and it's about 4 screws.
 
Finally the dealer replaced. I had to jump thru hoops after they agreed to replace it (no charge) because i think its a known issue. They tried to flip flop when i went to pick it up and charge me $500 i basically laughed. The manager came out and did the whole show and then gave me my car. Lil back story i also had them heck on the bulletin update that came out to check for the fuel vent issue.

Funny thing is they still did not clear up for me why its showing a a leather console but i still got a pleather console they were trying to charge me $500
