Hi guys, my wifes 08 FX35 speedometer is jumping. The car has 92,000 miles. She will be doing 45 mph and it will jump up to 55 and then back down very fast. When she brakes, it will sometimes jump up and down as the speed is reduced.

Is this a faulty gauge cluster? Or is this a sensor somewhere? Not sure if there is a recall for this problem. Any ideas?

Here is a video of the problem

Well I took it the car to a reputable mechanic as I found out it wasn't the speed sensor. Looks like the gauge stepper motor is failing and they do not make replacement motors for this car. Need to buy a new gauge cluster for a whopping $960! From what I understand buying a used cluster could cause all kinds of headaches with the computer communicating to each gauge. Don't have much choice on this one...

Myself and are few of others buy used cluster from ebay without any issues. Where did you hear about a used cluster could cause all kinds of headaches with the ECU communicating to the gauges? The only annoyance is the milage will be whatever of the used cluster. You can send it out to get it reprogram to set it to your milage if needed.
