Last week, the wife was driving home and the car just shut off going down the road. She said all the lights on the dash came on and the engine shut off. She coasted to the side of the road. Now, we've never had any problem with the car and it's very well taken care of (better than me a lot of the time), so this had me a little baffled. Had it towed to the local Goodyear service center (perhaps not one of my best decisions). Anyways, after 3 days of "Diagnostic testing", they concluded that the IPDM was bad and would need to be replaced... shoot $1300. I said OK, I need the car by Saturday, "no problem sir".. lol.

On Saturday they called and said "we have a problem sir, your ECM evidently also needs to be replaced, that will be another $1500":eek.:

Has anyone else had this kind of failure? Will the IPDM going out make the ECM fail as well.. If so, what else could be haywire?

I appreciate any help!!

Dave

why take it to goodyear when you would pay the same price at your dealeriship. Somethings not adding up with them

tell them to replace the ECM relay first

How is it $1300? I think the one for a G which is very similar is like $500 new and $2-300 to install. FWIW, failing IPDM's seem to be relatively common on Nissans. Usually a relay burns out which causes the engine to shut off. Often it is the ECM relay; and if indeed your ECM is toast, I'd blame Goodyear. ECM's don't usually fail out of the blue. Your initial symptoms do seem to fit with an IPDM issue. But the ECM getting fried would be an incompetent tech shorting it out while diagnosing.

Goodyear was a mile away, infinity dealership is 25 miles. Besides, what makes you think the dealership would replace the IPDM for $1300? When I called the dealership on Saturday, they quoted me $4600 to change out the ECM, Ground harness and coils. They said they wouldn't replace one without the other's.. I laughed and hung up. Did I mention I live in Kalifornia?

This is good info.. And yes, the IPDM looks to be about $550. If they had to remove the body off the car, in a zero gravity environment or something, I could understand the $800 in Labor. It seems excessive.

Did i also mention im from KALIFORNIA? , the dealer wants to replace everythih thats why, find another one. Im just helping you out, no need to get tense

I appreciate the input and the help, but no tension here. Sorry if you misunderstood:smile (2):

Anyone have experience with sending in the ECM to be repaired/rebuilt? Its less than half the cost, and has a 1yr warranty. Thinking about going that route..
