Well I have had my fx for about a week now and went to use the hitch on Saturday. Before using the hitch I inspected the wring and found that the harness is hard wired to the drivers side tail light with diode isolation. No modal is this safe or has anyone done this before? I feel like maybe i should change it? I'm towing a jet ski trailer nothing big but still.

Is the wiring jerry rigged or "custom installed"?
A properly installed OEM harness should look like this:

I have a kit sitting in my garage that I have yet to install. I mainly use the hitch for a bike carrier. According to the instructions connects via some sort of connector near the spare tire. There was a cheaper one that required splicing wires. Probably someone without a wiring diagram figured they would patch in at the light so as to not have to trace the wires.

If it works I would think its fine. just check it before you go.

It just looks like the hitch wiring is connected to running lights, stop light both turn signals and a ground. No box is installed just diode isolation to stop current from back feeding into the vehicle. It looks like all the curt hitch box is is a relay that uses constant power and when the switch side of the relay sees one of the functions it turns on the constant instead of using the power going to that signal.
