Hey All,

I just purchased a 2004 FX 35AWD SPORT, the ride is very bumpy and bouncy. Is this normal? I love the car, but it's really not a smooth ride. Any Suggestions?

I am rolling on the stock 20's

How many miles on the FX? bumpy and bouncy, do you men mushy? as in soft? The 03-04 sport is a very stiff ride. It improved in the 05 and on. If looking into aftermarket then H&R springs is the way to go for a softer ride.

Could be a number of things, shocks/struts might be gone usually around 50K-60K miles, tires, etc. Has any suspension mods been done...is it lowered?. I would go test drive another and see if its the same ride that you are experiencing. If its the same then there is probably nothing wrong, just you probably needing to get used to it.

Its a stiff ride with the Sports package.
You might wanna consider changing to H&R springs.
Also might want to check the condition of the shocks/struts.

My 03 AWD is really bumpy as well. I am changing the strut and the springs out due to high mileage.

The 04+ FX has less bumpy road responses.

The FX is not lexus so hope you did not make a mistake in getting a FX. The FX is meant to have a sport car suspension feel and handling so you will have a bumpy ride especially on the 20's. Also, the stock tires are pretty hard so that will also not help with smoothing out the ride quality. Add the optional sport suspension and you will feel just about every crack and pebble on the road.

change the tires. Goodyear RSA (20 inch at least) are very stiff. My tire guy said he had a hard time removing them.

go with the tires recommended on this site (search tires)

Thank you all for the advice. My 2004 FX has 17,000 miles on it. It also has the stock Goodyear RSA tires on them with about 40% tread left. I'm going to start by changing out the tires and see if that helps. What I am experiencing is just a very stiff ride (which I don't mind) and a cheap lowered cars bounce on any non flat road. The car is not lowered, but sure does ride like a car that was lowered with a cheap suspension.

after tires, I would suggest shocks and struts. Even though you have low mileage, they are on the car unload. I have a 05 and dont experience any bounce. I'm even lowered.
