is there any way to bypass somehow and install a possible connection to watch dvds on the stock screen ? could it be done or is aftermarket the only way??

Will is correct. To use the stock(Tech pkg color) screen to view dvd video you can use a part called 'Nav-TV'. Like this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...49&ih=012&category=48605&ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1
