Colored Halo Headlights

Ive read a lot of the posts you guys have put up on halos. I want to get some red ones. But I havent seen anyone on here use colored rings. Is this a bad idea? Or is it just noone has done it? Or maybe I missed it. Also would there be a way to color the led rings red? Because the only actual red ones I seen on ebay are not LEDs.

I know Marek had made the color changing ones once upon a time for an IS (Lexus not Infiniti Scene) I don't see why you wouldnt be able to do it.

I would think that red might be illegal in some areas though? Not sure about that but could be. I would look into color changing LED if you are going that route instead of strictly red.

The other cool thing you can do (which one member on here, Lex, had done) was mount a couple LED's behind the projector that light up different colours. This way you can get the actual glass of the projector to light up a given colour. This only works when your headlights aren't on obviously but it looked really cool...

:good: Thanks Jonathan, I have been wrecking my mind trying to remember which company that I have came across with color options on AE rings.

Im in a lil small country town. They dont know whats illegal and whats not. LOL Im gonna make sure I will be able to turn them on and off at demand tho.

:bulgy-eyes:Was trying to find link to that thread/pics, anyone have it?

If you paint the cutoff shield, the headlights will look that color when on or off from the front. My cutoff shields are red, and when you look at the car straight on, the projector lens is red. Even when the lights are on, the projector looks red even though the light is normal. It's subtle, but noticeable. I avoided putting LED's in the projector because they often fail because of the heat from the bulb. Too much of a hassle to open the headlight if an LED fails.

I have seen this done on some cars (mostly TLs since that's the other forum I am on all the time) but I never saw anyone paint those cut off shields black. I was wondering if you have seen this and how it would look? On blacked out headlights it might be an overkill with it all black but I would still like to see it

I'll try to get some pics. Haven't taken any with the headlights in yet.

I've not seen black shields yet. But it might look cool although you're right there would be no contrast.

This is what black painted shield looks like. Might be too black for my taste, I might paint mine white to match the car

I have seen shadow's method employed in person and it does look really good. I saw it done in red, and it looked mean as hell.

If it's black on black on black, it's a bit much. But if you left the end of the shrouds chrome or something, it might work since the black on both sides of the shroud will be offset by the chrome. I taped off the shrouds on mine so they're still chrome while blacking out the rest. Just be careful if you do this, the chrome is very delicate.

I will look into this in more detail in the spring. it's too cold here to do it now. I have done a bunch of these blacking out headlight projects on TLs, just never did this particular project of painting cutoff shields. I might paint shrouds white to match the car. Still playing with ideas

thanks for the info tho

My cutoff shield is painted blue also. You can see the blue reflection on the passenger projector in this picture
