Hello Friends
Looking to get my rims powder coated or painted in a gloss black and wanted to know what are the pros and cons of both?

Powder coating is much more durable than paint and is less prone to chipping and scratching.
I got my 21" rims powder coated Hyper Black and love the end result.

Jayr i see you're in downey, do you know any good shops that are not so expensive that powedercoat?

Powder is more durable, just less color selection. But these days, it's more than anyone needs. Back in the day, you had a lot less selection. Paint can get a little more depth because of the clear, but on wheels it doesn't matter.

Basically..

Paint Pros: Unlimited selection of colors, shade, flakes, effects... Easier to repair
Cons: More prone to chips and scratches and cost more

Powder Pros: Harder to scratch and cost less.
Cons: Heat is used and "can possibly" weaking the wheel. Hard to repair damages

One of my buddies used to work at a powdercoating shop but he is still cool with the manager he asked him how much for my wheels he said 40-50 bucks a wheel which seems very good priced to me.
I'm Planing to get them done next month will let you know how they turn out.

^ what's the name of the shop and where they located?

its in paramount think the name of the place is alpha spray powdercoating. I txt my friend to confirm but i believe that price he gave me was a "special price" Not sure

oh yes, they'll look sexy, chrome emblem as in just the infiniti sign on the center caps right? if so its definitely a must!
Also, did u check with ur friend to see if the prices can be applied to us too

I'm down as well in a couple of months. Been looking for places over the past few weeks.

just the emblem...i will check with him see what he says im sure it should be fine the only think that's going to suck is leaving my fx on bricks till they get done

Def post pics after you get it done and keep the emblem chrome...it will look good. That's how I'm going to do it as well.

depends on whos doing the powdercoating as well. I had wheels done and the guy powdercoated over the old wheel weights and valve stems. he didn't even bother to take them off. I guess my own fault for assuming he would properly prep the wheel. Other than those couple spots though the powdercoating has been great compared to rims ive had done with paint and paid much more for.

reviving an old thread.. I've read that you might get some vibrations after powder coating the rims, but you don't get that with paint. Can anyone provide more info on that front?

I got my 21's powder coated and they are vibration free. I would do it again.
