Some sad issues with my FX :(

Got my car back from Infiniti. They had the master technician look at it and it is indeed oil vapor.

The mechanic ended up putting rtv sealant around that area and didn't tell me so I was pissed about that cause they never noted it on the paper work. Service manager said he's sloppy -__-

I'm still curious though why they out that on there even though they said it's not an oil leak.....

Happy that I don't have one none the less.

You would think that buying an infiniti would get you luxury class service...in the end its bandaid fixes...literally

Where is the RTV sealant exactly? They may have put it there because they found the issue or they are trying to see if that really is the issue.

What I would have done to see where its coming from is wash the engine, use compressed air to dry it out, drive it and check daily and see where its creeping out.

Where is the RTV sealant exactly?

RTV Sealant is the automotive equivalent to sikaflex.

Its basically like having a leak in your roof and using bathroom sillicone to patch it up. It may work, it may not, but either way its not the right way to fix a problem...

I used RTV sealant when I put the black covers back on the front of the motor. That's what's used to help seal it up. They used gray at the factory but I used red because it's what I had already.

Yeah, figured the higher temp wouldn't hurt, but probably not make any difference since the engine won't get that hot.

"This is like my 3rd battery from Infiniti"

That, I'm sorry to say, was your first mistake ;) Swap out for a Sears Diehard Platinum. Infiniti batteries suck.

Not withstanding your other issues of course.

Hey can someone with a 2nd gen FX35 please do me a favor and take a picture of that area on their FX where I had the oil vapor? Really appreciate it if someone could do that for me.

you dont know what is oil leak dude
get some bimmer and then complain ;)

Haha I was just going to say this! Valve cover gasket leak EVERY YEAR anyone? (3 series issue and prob other series)

These issues are minor and prob fixable compared to some other brands!

Ok guys this problem is getting worse I wiped away the old oil I saw on there and look it's back again today and it's looks fresh and it's wet

And I also found out the dealership put some sealant on there which means they were aware of the leak that no one told me last time I brought it in for this issue. I'm so pissed about this. Literally nothing has ever been done to the engine. I don't know what causes this to happen. It's definately not something common :( I feel like banging my head into the wall.

That totally sucks Aaron, that place really mislead you. You must be so frustrated. I would be warning others to stay away from that place

I know :(

They use to be great until some people left that use to work in service and now they honestly suck.

I feel so sad. I don't know why my car is leaking oil like this. It literally has only 53K miles and you guys know I baby my ride. I didn't do anything to it. I don't think it's a manufacturing issue because it should of leaked earlier and it never did. My oil level on the dipstick is fine though but it'd obvious it's leaking. My concern would be loss of oil pressure on the motor. Ughhh :|

So what are they saying about fixing the leak. That leak is minimal and should not affect oil pressure, but who the heck wants an oil leak on their well maintained car. I would be rattling their chains something fierce.

Contact Infiniti Corporate for help. They helped me with the alignment issue I had plus credited me the bill. Some folks like meme on here ridiculed me about my alignment issue that I posted on the forum and told me Corporate wouldn't do anything for me. Corporate knew that this was my 3rd Nissan, 2nd Infiniti, and not only did they send me an apology letter, they had my issue fixed, and sent me a pre-paid credit card. Lets just say that the Service Manager at that dealer no longer works there!!

Ok I dropped it off this morning. They finally acknowledge the leak and they said that it's possible when the engine was built at the factory a piece of dirt got in between the rtv sealant and timing cover possibly leading to the leak.

Either way they said they have to pull either the front of the timing cover off and reseal it again :/ I hate when things like that are messed with usually never the same again. I hope all goes well.

At least I got a cherry red Q50 loaner

Just got a call back from the dealer that my car wont be ready till next week -_-

They said the timing cover and timing chain with the sprocket had to come out. They found the source of the leak by this cap on the back of the timing chain cover. Atleast thats what they told me.

Here's the bad part. They said 2 other 2nd gen's came in a few days ago for the same EXACT problem!!! This must not be uncommon then. I think the people on here that have had this problem before just haven't reported it. Everyone please keep an eye out on the timing chain cover area on the passenger side as shown in my pictures! If you see any grease or just the slightest drip of oil, take it to the dealer immediately. This is covered under the power train warranty so your time is limited.
