So Hello everyone, this is my first post here on the forums and I just recently purchased a 04 FX45 and already loving it. the only thing really bothering me at this moment is the navigation. I HATE outdated maps and it still has the original 2003 maps so i proceeded to go online to order the newest disc for it which is around 150$ and that is for the 2013 maps, which was odd to me since the 06 and up FX's could get 2014 maps, so i called the company (navteq) and they said they no longer support that system and 2013 maps will be the final update for this navigation system and she then proceeded to suggest i buy a navigation unit from a newer model to replace the current one (made me laugh). But it got me thinking, the 06-08 FX's are almost identical to the 03-05's and they also use a dvd system under the passenger seat. So my question is, what does the harness look like for 06 and 04 compared together and where does the CPU for the nav system reside, does it reside within the dvd drive under the seat or is it with the radio. I've been lurking through lots of posts and topics on multiple forums for multiple different things i may want to do to the car to bring it back to the day and age (has a tape deck for crying out loud lol) but if someone has some info on the nav systems that comes with the car as far as components required for a install on a car without nav and what not i may be able to figure something out. If this has been covered already in another post I apologize, i have been searching for over a week now.

A few wanted to do this. The harness are completely different. In the long run it will be to much work and money. You have two options. 1) A portable GPS 2) Install a new radio with GPS built in. You can get Metra harness and plug up a new radio. You would have to dremel out where the oem screen is to make the larger screen fit and relocate the oem screen below.

I have a 2005 Fx35 and i too would like to purchase the Navigation update disc.Someone posted that you can check the Navetq website to check out the latest version but I have been inable to find it.I have the originnal 2003 version and it is terrible. Just wanted to see if the upadate was worth getting.

If you have lots of new roads in your area, then yes, the updated maps will help with calculating your commutes. However, it will NOT change the user interface style or system that runs the navigation. It will look and work the same as before.

Agreed. The version I have says it covers 03-05 fx and g.

so just for clarification, is the actual computer that controls the navigation portion of the display upfront, under the passenger seat as one unit with the DVD drive itself and the only thing holding us back from getting a newer DVD/nav unit from a 06-08 Nissan is due to the harnesses being different? Also, is the ECU connected directly to the nav unit to supply the basic info such as tps, mpg, etc.. I'm just trying to figure all this mess out because I might be able to rework a nav unit to accept the newer maps.

also, if you can't install an updated nav unit, is there a way to have video in place of the nav, for example, an aftermarket nav unit that has video out to display the maps on a external display but still have the overlay from the ecu for cabin air control and tpms ect... on second thought, I'm not sure how i would enter destinations and what not. hmmm

People have done a couple of things:
1.) Installed a NAVTV module that allows an auxilary video feed into your stock display. You would have to switch back and forth to see the different feed if you want to see your usual climate control, radio, etc.

2.) Replaced the display with an aftermarket unit and ran an aftermarket Nav system to this new screen. Then moved the OEM screen to an alternate location.

3.) Just used a stand alone Nav unit.

I have an updated disc for a lot cheaper if anyone needs it.

Having the car navi is sometimes better, in terms of signal strength and being in the middle of no where. But I still us my phone more. Mainly for street view and traffic

Intersting where you are, LOL they diagnosed the FX i was looking at in NY as flooded. anyway, my FX has a burned copy of the maps....i think 09

The install on the 03-05 ones take maybe 10 minutes and a 10 year old can do it. U just pop in disc and hit update. Pop in the new disc and be done.

Newer ones with the hard drive is another story.

If u need help with the 03-05 shoot me a PM.
