HFC options

so I've been away from the infiniti scene for quite a while. Now i'm ready to do up my ride even more:smile (2):

I have had the invidia catback for over 30 thousand km now and I LOVE the sound especially on a cold start. Now I'm looking to make it sound even throatier and any performance gain will be bonus:wink:. What do you guys recommend to go with the invidia catback? I heard the invidia hfc is very hissy, not something I want. Any other suggestion for HFC that doesn't have a four digit price tag?

because I've been away for so long here a recent pic of my ride. Curb my gtr rims last winter and just got it repainted. Need a drop pronto though

I have the same exhaust and I have kinetix HFC's and I have no drone. I love the way it's sounds.

FX looks good and I also notice you have the. :iS: Decals installed for an added 10hP.

yep had the sticker since 2009. the added hp make me feel better about not have a 37:rotfl:

did a little research on the kinetix hfc. seems like the g35 guys reports along problem with heat shield, CEL and the bracket breaking.... any other recommended HFC?

I removed my heat shield when I had the old cats so I have no heat shields, it doesn't throw a (cel) I've been running mine for about a year now with no problems and with the kinetix you don't need the bracket for the FX not sure about the G35 (if your talking about the bracket that goes from one cat to the other) that's a stock option but then again you have a 2nd gen and I have a 1st gen maybe totally different... I don't know sorry.

In my experience HFC's made a noticeable difference. I seemed to chirp the tires a lot more from a stop. However, after getting tuned I couldn't do it anymore so I'm sure what was happening.

I would go with Motordyne ART pipes. I don't have them but I have heard them personally on Lerrys ride with the ark exhaust and it sounds sick.

You'd want the HR ones. And yeah, probably won't work with AWD with those chambers sticking out how they do.

All the regular HFC's should fit the AWD. Just the ART pipes (which aren't HFC's anyways, they're test pipes). Regular HFC's are the same general dimensions as OEM.

Well, most test pipes will fit too. ART pipes don't fit because they are test pipes, they don't fit because of the chamber off the side, which other hfc's/test pipes don't have.

Alright so I just look for hfc that fits vq35hr? Seems like it could be a relatively cheap mod if I can find it used from the g35 guys. I'm going to be on the look out on local car forums. Any brands recommendation beside the ART than?

CNT Racing HFC's are pretty cheap. You should check out those. They sound good also paired with Invidia (there is a youtube video with a blue 370z with this setup).

Seems like HFC's will eventually go bad since they still have the baffles ("honeycomb") inside even though less quantity. I am sure they wont last the same as factory just due to quality/manufacturing alone. I have had stock cats fail at 78k miles, but due to other connecting issues. If it was my choice I would do ART pipes, seems to be the best pipe without the threat of baffles coming lose or breaking. Now considering AWD and possibly emissions, that adds a whole set other things to consider. I have heard great thing about FI HFCS and obviously Berk, dont know how it would sound paired to Invidia though.

Bringing this thread back from the past lol. anyways im getting a pretty good deal on berk hfc's coming off of an 06 g35 coupe. Just wanted to make sure it will fit my 05 fx35 awd. Also do i need a o2 sensor bung with hfcs? if not could i put one anyways for like "extra safety" lol i really dont want a cel light. Thanks guys

Berk's should have an O2 sensor extender already built in. If you put an extra one in, it may cause the rear sensor to read too low and that will throw a light as well. Best to install first, see if you get the light and take it from there. The extender is really easy to install anyways.
