Arggh! stuck and can't decide on wheels 20 or 22 's Falken RT-7M

What should I do??

I am finally around to getting a new set of wheels. Honestly don't want to spend any money but I need new tires and likely won't pass inspection until I do
I really hate the beefy tires on my 18's and I like the way the Falken RT-7M's look and can't find another wheel new that looks nice in this price range.
Anyway here are the details and pricing

22 Inch - Falken RT-7M - Glossy Black (Weight 36lbs)
Yokohama Parada Spec-X 285/40R-22 XL 110V B
Total Out the Door: $2367


20 Inch - Falken RT-7M - Glossy Black (Weigh 29lbs)
Yokohama Parada Spec-X 265/50R-20 XL 111V B
Total Out the Door: $1950

Roughly $417 difference in price.

What would you guys do ? Concerned with appears, weight (gas mileage and 0-6) and handling.
 
Or go for the 21" inch from a GEN2. I think it was posted for 1500 as a going rate.

I love the rims but...the big problem with the 21 incher's is the cost of tires. 1700 a set. I wouldn't recommend them unless the buyer knows they will need to spend a bundle on tires and that there's one one choice for a high speed rated tire.

Put another way, full set of OEM 21" FX50 rims + new tires = 33-3400 out the door :)

20" for "performance"
22" for looks

From what I understand the 20 will weigh less then my stock 18's and 22's will weigh close if not slightly more. So MPG and weigh shouldn't really be a factor no?
Any ideas about ride comfort either size ? I also read on another post that the 22's would handle better since they have 40 profile vs the bigger 50 profile. Plus 22's will have 285 tires vs 20;s 265. The larger footprint has to help handling no?

Can someone that has had both 20's and 22's on their FX give me insight and thoughts on both?

I went from stock 20's to 22. Ride is a little bit stiffer due to 265/40 tire. Acceleration, handling, mpg? Meh nothing hugely noticeable in daily driving, so do it if you like the look.

First, the stock FX 20s weigh ~31lbs. I don't know about the 18s for sure but I would assume they're a little lighter.

Regarding the wheel/tire size difference: I have 265/50R20 on one FX and 285/35R22 on the other. The difference in handling is virtually non-existent. What is really noticeable though is the weight. The 22s are much heavier and that manifests in the form of heavier steering, slower acceleration, and a more harsh ride.

If you want the 22s for the look, then there's no argument. If you want performance, then you'll need to find a set that is lighter than your 18s ($$$$).

Thanks I thinking the same thing probably won't notice huge difference in performance loss. Definetly leaning toward the 22's looks much better than the 20's and appears most people here agree.
 
I was in the same exact situation as you when deciding on our previous FX. Ended up going with the 20's. In retrospect, I sorta wish we had sprung for the 22's. It all depends on the road conditions in the area that you live. I will say the 20's look deceptively big. They look as big (if not bigger) than the stock 21's we have on our new FX.

Roads are not to bad in our area. There are some uneven roads but the pot holes are fairly rare and can be avoid if they do exist. I think that is thanks to little to no snow last 2 years.
My wife's TL has 35 rated profile tires, never had any issues with blow out or pot holes and shes not a cautious driver toward these holes.
I am worried about the same thing going 20's then regretting it every time I see the wheels :eek.:
