Upgraded Foglights to HID - 3000k Morimoto

For those who like the bright yellow euro look for your fogs, here is the answer. I had LED's in the reflector housing prior to this, but no way are they near as bright as the Morimoto Elite 3000k HID's I just put in. I will say that I prefer the deep amber color of the LED's over the bright yellow HID's, but beggars can't be choosers, especially if you're looking for brightness. I have some amber film sitting around which I may try in front of the lens. But I'm certain that will cut some luminosity down. Probably wouldn't be bad, since these, along with my driving HID's are now BRIGHT AS F*CK!

And how did you do the LED DRL's?

My bad. I read thru the post too quickly, saw 'Morimoto' and thought the OP had replaced his reflector housings w/ Morimoto projectors. That might be a little more involved than swapping bulbs. Looks like the biggest part of doing the fogs is getting to them. Do most guys take the front wheels off or can you do it with them on?
 
i think the 2nd gen is easier to get too then the 1st. If you need space or work freely then i would suggest the wheels off. 1st gen you need to take off the bottom plastic to arch, 2nd gen i think there is a area that you pnly remove the bottome small plastic.

Nope other way around, 2nd Gens need to remove the wheels arch plastics to get to it. First gens are way easier.

If anybody needs this done in NYC region, we do HID fogs for $150 installed (Luce Produkt). Can also order the Morimoto stuff, very good quality as well but a little more $$
 
I am interested in doing this mod. Do you have any issues with light pattern since the HID retro? Do you get flashed at on the street? I am assuming since they are fogs they are low enough that it wont matter much but I do not want to be blinding oncoming traffic.

I thought the 1st gen is way harder because you have to remove the front bumper for a proper install, while on the 2nd gen only a quick wheel plastic removal?
 
I was changing the oil this weekend and I was picking around since I am planning on doing this. With the 1st gens, you can access the fogs from the bottom if you remove a few screws. If you are just changing bulbs it will work but I am afraid I will need more access if I am putting in HIDs.
 
Did you also do the heavy duty relay also? I have the kit too but i still have not done the install. IS member Cruise sent me some pics and instructions on how to install the heavy duty relay for in order to ground the wires.
 
1st gen you can take off the wheel well covers (at least half way) and all the bottom covers, then turn the wheel in either direction to get to bulbs. Its a bit of a pain you have to squeeze arms in there. if there is more needed you can remove the fog light assembly and mess with it outside, then put it back in after.

I swapped mine for halo/projector combo, but I want to change out the bulb for LED or HID. this HID you're using with the standard bulb/reflector housing right?
 
i just did this mod today. I did not take apart the whole wheel well. i took apart as much as was needed for my hands to fit in. took me about 45 mins to do both sides.

I did mine using the harness from MM , and both fogs are not firing up at all. Everything is done according to instructions, everything is grounded as it's supposed to be, but they fogs are not coming on at all :(
