Reprogram Your TPMS - DIY

One of my rears froze I guess, so I'll give this a shot. Glad it got bumped. I had one go out in the middle of a drive a couple years ago and just had it replaced since I didn't know about this option.

I'm worried about getting the pressures exact, especially if that's so crucial. I only have analog gauges, pumps, etc.

Good luck, I never could quite get it right and driving at 55mph on the hwy is scary. I've got a local shop that does it for nothing since they do all my tire stuff anyways. And since Discount Tire does it for free, this option just isn't worth it unless you don't have other options.
 
So I did the grounding and it kept flashing past 60 secs. That means I can do the learning and don't have to do the clearing procedure?

Also, for anyone who needs help finding the white plug, it's just visible above the kickplate with it still on, closest to the door. You can slide it up and out of the electric tape (almost like a holster), but it didn't seem quite doable with the kickplate still on.

Easy-peasy. Hardest part was letting out the one tire to 26 psi. When mine came on the pressures weren't exactly what they had to be set at so it's not too sensitive, but I did have them set exact before I started driving. Only took maybe 3-4 mins for them to come up as well. I did it while my dad's phone was getting repaired since the place was right by a 60 mph road. I used the Craftsman digital tire gauge to make sure it was exactly what it needed to be for each tire. I'm tempted to cut out a little rectangle in the kick panel by the plug so that it's easier to get to in the future, if needed.
 
Small update....my light is out!
Sadly I didnt get to try the manual reset trick in this thread. A friend had a scan tool & brought it in to work today. Scanned my truck & found history codes for low battery voltage in my left front & left rear sensors. I cleared the codes & road tested it....light out & all pressures reading normally. Those single temp days must have killed the batts in those sensors but since the temps warmed back up they are alive again!
 
Yeah, I noticed that a flashlight I had in my car must have frozen and the batteries exploded in there.
 
one sensor reading 0

I tried the reset procedure and it worked perfect expect the rear left sensor is reading 0 and that causes the flat tire warning to come on. I tried twice and both times the sensor came up reading 0. I assume that this sensor is not working right. i just bought the rims used with the TMPS.

Could anything else cause a 0 reading or should I take it in and get that sensor replaced

I just took the car out again to try to get the left rear to read more than 0. Interesting I used 36,33,30,27 and it worked too. still have the left rear reading 0. I also noticed that i got one beeb after 2minutes, then 2 beebs in another minute, then 3 beebs after another minute then 4 beebs after other minute. I assume the beebs are when the sensor registers. After the last 4 beebs the flashing light on dash went out the the tire pressures showed up on the screen. These are used stock wheels I just bought with the original sensors. When I took them to Costco to mount the new tires they said that two of the sensors didn't work and I needed 2 new ones. They suggested I change all 4 but I cheaped out and just got 2. I guess I have to go back and get another new one. any thoughts???
 
Took the car back to Costco and they replaced the bad sensor and reset the tmps. good news is that the light is out. bad news is that one of the sensors reads 37psi and the tires are all set at 33psi.
 
So I recently tried to have my sensors reset by local tire shop. They're claiming that there's an issue with the TPMS monitor because the flashing doesn't stop so they can't reset them. So is the system in learning mode or is there something actually wrong? These guys know what they're doing and are a high volume shop, but they literally had 3 guys out there looking confused. They got all the sensors to read, but could not get them to register to the car.

I tried this DIY a long time ago but couldn't get it to work either because the flashing never stopped. Then I saw it was because I had brand new sensors and they needed to be registered to the car. So I took it to a couple of shops and for whatever reason none were able to get them to work. Basically they can all read the sensors, but when they plug the box up to the OBD port, they can never get the car to communicate with the sensors.

So am I having an issue w/ the system itself? I've basically had the light on for 3 years now since I swapped wheels. Everything was fine with OEM wheels, then got new ones and took them to dealer. Dealer couldn't even program the TPMS; they said they couldn't get readings from the rear wheels to load up. Since then it's been a comedy of errors with multiple shops and sensors. I thought I was about to finally resolve it; but not anymore.
 
Somewhat of a related topic, anyone using aftermarket sensors? If so, what brand or where did you get them? Same programming instructions?

And, any chance the pictures (hosting) can be updated?

I got a set of aftermarket sensors from tire rack for my winters a few years back. Don't know the brand but they worked just fine. I called them up and ordered over the phone. They were able to look up the correct model I needed.

Same, mine have been working for 2 years now, and they have been perfect. Best part is they were like 25 bucks each, instead of like hundreds of dollars.
 
This is strange...
My summer set has oem TPMS. While on, car was programmed for these TPMS.
Then, I got a new winter set with EZ-sensor. On installation, they programmed the car for these new TPMS.
For some reason, I had to put the summer's back. I thought I'd had to reprogram again, but not, it picked them up back.
All this time I thought the car would keep only 1 set of TPMS.
