Installed preoil drop in K&N air filter about 6-7 months ago, here is the symtom starting 3-4 days ago. Idle drop every once a while. car loss power while driving. can be dangerous if it was in high traffic situation. lucky my wife was able to pull over to the side of the road. wait few minute and it would start going again. This happen random so it would drive nornal and it would just happen all the suddent. also MPG would decrease. MPG go down to 16mpg on the trip info screen. Took it to the dealer, service result was Air flow meter sensor damage cause by oil from K&N filter. Cost to replace sensor by dealer? $800 and some change. decide to do it myself... got used one from JY for from 350Z same part #. 350Z sensor cost me $25. sensor replaced and stock filter put back in.. problem gone. MPG now back to 20 also. keep my finger cross for now. any one experience this? comment.....

This is why I don't run a filter that needs to be oiled. It's very easy to over oil the filter and cause issues.

That is why you barely mist the filter with oil, the oil is only meant to catch dust. I have ran supermarket filters on all of my cars trucks and motorcycles and have never had a problem. Sorry to hear about what happened glad it didn't cost you alot to fix.

This is what I been trying to tell people for a while on here lol. I use to use K&N drop in filters and it made my throttle bodies get all oily and screwed up causing the idle to fluctuate. And I didn't even oil them they came oiled from the factory. I'd rather stick to OEM and besides I saw no difference in mpg's or any other of that nonsense that people claim the filters do.

He said the oil from the filters would screw over the MAF sensors and typically require both to be replaced.

Yeah its fixed. I found out it was just the car downshifting. No more stalling though and the idle dropping below 500 rpm. They actually fixed it the first time after they updated the ECM.

Interesting.......

You do know I'm talking about 2 different situations right? The one JDtrader brough up was a software issue with my idle with deaccelerating to standstill.

The problem I had with my K&N airfilters was causing the idle to jump up and down while sitting in park and not moving. Two totally different stories....

well maybe dealer is BS on the test result. all I did was replace sensor and put stock filter back, the issue seem to have gone away. maybe they reset my ECU and just want to charge me for bogus part. who knows... next time I'll go nissan/infiniti specialist shop.

My mistake.

Had mine for over 20k miles without issues....I would change it out in a heartbeat if there was an intake system available for our cars.
