Low RPM exhaust rattle

I am new to the forum and don't know is anyone else has had this issue, but my 2004 FX35 has a rattle at low RPM's that is similar to the sound of a loose heat shield. does anyone have any ideas what this could be or how to remedy this? Thanks!

Where does the sound come from? from the middle of the car for you guys? I get a rattle too when I start the car up and lasts a few seconds. But you can hear it from the back of the car too if you standing back there, near the exhaust tips. I think its the heat shield for me.

Mine sounded like it was coming from right under my driver seat so I assumed it was the cat. I used a metal clamp to squeeze the heat shield onto the cat to make it stop rattling. It has started to rattle slightly again however so it probably came loose. It came loose in the first place because of rust.

Hmm okay. During the summer when its hotter, I hear a slight rattle on start up under my drivers seat area too in addition to the rear. I do have Invidia exhaust tips welded on to replace the old oem tips. Maybe I have two different rattles going on, lol.

Lol, it's possible. Or the rattle from the cats is echoing down your exhaust. I would work at the cats first and see if that stops the rattle.

I have a similar problem in my '05. The noise comes from the driver's side rear tire, and you can even hear it rattle if you shut the doors hard enough. I took it in, and they said it was the E-brake. The tech said he tightened it up, which stopped the sound, but about 3 months later it returned. Looks like this is a common problem in these cars. Kind of like the crazy noise the car makes when you lose traction and the ABS comes on.

I had the same thing happen to my car, It would rattle below 3k rpm. I took it to Infiniti, since I'm under warranty, and they said something was wrong with the muffler. So they replaced the whole muffler. He said that there was nothing I could do to prevent it, which sucks.. So, I guess it just happens randomly?

Oh and this happened around 85k miles, my vehicle right now is at about 104k.

There are some good tips, here, I noticed the same thing on startup with mine. I get a small rattle on startup until the exhaust system has a chance to heat up and then it goes away pretty quickly.

I just noticed mine doing the same thing. Slight rattle at low RPM's but over big bumps, I hear it too. It seems to be coming from the rear passenger side. Mine does not go away after the engine warms up like others did. But the rattle on mine is barely noticable right now. I have to turn off the radio and after hitting 10-15mph, it goes away. At least its no longer audible. For those of you with the problem and still have the problem, did it progressively get worse over time? Did the rattle get louder? Right now it does not bother me at all, but I would rather fix it now knowing it will get worse down the line.

Im gonna go have my heat shields looked at because I have the same rattle upon excelleration, just started to happen.
