Hello IS members and guests. Today my Provisional patent arrived in the mail. After months of research, development and testing, I am very proud to bring you an :iS: exclusive first look!

The Manta Ray CAI (Cold Air Intake) system for the VK powered FX45 2003-2005.

008-1.jpg

It is a fully enclosed system that uses a heat shielded High flow cone filter and very little metal to allow next to no heat soak possible. To me, other intakes available are more or less short rams pulling in hot engine compartment air. The Manta Ray CAI is sure to cut the heat and increase the air volume injested by the VK. It weighs almost 3lbs less than the factory setup. Designed to be streamline simple, yet effective, It has significantly better flow over the stock intake. It Uses larger diamater tubing stepping down gradually from 5" to 3" at the Throttle body opening. The Manta Ray also has a non obstructed, smoother air path by relocating the Vaccume and breather tubes. The debri collectors and emission dongles are long gone as well. There are two different styes of the MAF housing. They are custom made out of T65 grade aluminum. The first is for 03-04 round style and the second is for 2005 square style. All Silicone tubing used is made from thick re-enforced 4 layer.

To answer your question in advance, no I do not have before and after dyno numbers. I can honestly tell you that I feel better throttle response and helps the VK to breath the faster you go. I felt a huge difference at highway speeds. Let's be honest here, it's just an intake. You will probably yield a modest 5 to 8+ hp increase depending on supporting mods. I wanted to contribute something new for the 45 owners, because we seem to get left in the dark too often. The Manta Ray CAI is not only easy on the eye; it seems to go really well with the engine bay. It's not overdone or Ricey. The Manta Ray kit will come with everything you need, including 8 page color photo, step by step instructions. I will have a limited number of them available to ship in the next week or two. For IS members only, I am selling at a Discounted price of $280 + shipping . On Ebay I'll be selling them for more. A few are spoken for already, if you are interested shoot me a PM. Please understand that I'm not in this to make a bunch of coin, my profits are slim. I am just one man, putting these kits together by hand for the love of the FX. I am not a company mass producing. This is a trial run so if there is enough interest I will order the parts to put together a second batch.

For the 06' and up fx45 owners, I am working on an intake for you as well. Since The Manta Ray CAI is modular, it will share at least the Heat shielded filter and custom MAF housing. With a few variations and some hands on fitment, I am optimistic that a working prototype will emerge soon. Because of the design change I will have to apply for a new provisional patent, so please be pacient.
Thank you very much.

Joe - This looks great man, really, really great, I applaud your inventiveness....

Also excited to know you are working on an 06' model. The grill intake/tube coupling is perfect BTW.

That is a very nice looking kit! Congrats on the invention and your hard work :top::rock::tup:

Thanks guys for all the positive feedback, I really appreciate it! It's been a journey, but I'm not finished yet...

Looks great, need to watch those near-90 degree angles though!

How else would you do it? Post MAF tube is how OEM design is with ~90 degree angle. There is not much room there.

Pre MAF tube is before the air filter and pretty similar to OEM air box.

You can straighten it out a little but looks like Joe opted for the largest volume, i.e. largest tube size.

Only thing to add is possibly a scoop to draw air from the bottom too for more air. But that adds on more R&D, parts and complexity (and price!).

Easy enough to drill a hole on the bottom of the 90 degree bend pre MAF tube and attach a straight vacuum hose from a house hold vacuum with scoop straight down to the bottom.

Then you silicon it up to have it sealed and now you have a ram air effect from the front air dam and the bottom. Possibly colder air from the bottom.

Few questions:
1) Where do we get replacement filters?
2) Any hesitation or idle issues? (assuming not)
3) Is that larger breather filter included? Man that thing is big.

Slamming, that is one nice setup...finally an actual good looking intake for the 45 crowd.

Great job Slamming. I'm anticipating you'll have large group buys and eventually 09+ FXs will become interested if the HP gain is there.

Great job getting that thing into production! Now that your patent is intact, can we see an exploded view of the assembly? Like this pic:

I wonder how long someone replicates these into into mass production from China......j/k...kind of.

My buddy just came back form china with 10 polo replica shirts that would normally be $80/each for $8 for all 10.
