Where is the sensor for the "active" cruise located?

It's the big black box next to the right foglight. You can see it through the bumper openings

Funny story related to this. Me and my little brother were driving on the freeway. Hes in the passenger seat and I say, "hey I have this cool feature called laser cruise. When I turn it on it beams a laser on the next car to determine the distance. See that red dot on the car ahead of us?" it was comical to watch him try to loate the red dot :laugh:
 
It is quite sensitive to road debris. I was using it once and all of a sudden it stopped working and it would not engage cruise. I was upset because I thought that it had broken. As it turns out, it was just a tiny bit of paper that kicked up from the road and covered the edge of the sensor.
 
When using this.. Which setting controls distance? Idk how the 45's are but for my 35 i can set it to 1,2 or 3 "bars"... Is three bars where the car slows down furthest from The vehicle ahead? Whereas the one bar is where it slows down the latest? Or what do they mean? I was playing around with mine awhile ago and couldnt figure it out... Sometimes it worked sumtimes it didnt but i also never cleaned it so maybe thats part of the problem
 
1 bar sets it to follow the closest and 3 bars is the setting for providing the most amount of distance in between. Somewhere I've read what those distance settings are (in feet). Maybe that was in the manual?
 
Until you get used to it, pay close attention and cover the pedals. It can be tricky around big rigs and if the highway curves. For example, if you're in the number 1 lane, passing a vehicle in the number 2 lane as the highway curves left, the sensor may see the vehicle in the adjacent lane and think its in front of you. It may brake relatively hard. Understand the limitations of the system and you may find it to be a great tool.
 
I have a problem with it cutting out when there are curves in the highway, anything more than a slight curve and it stops sensing the car in front of me and won't reengage. Thus I throttle up towards the rear bumper of the car in front of me as if I'm going to ram it off the road.

Probably because the system only shoots the beam straight forward. If you have your cruise set at say 75 mph and the car ahead of you is going 65, once it's behind the curve the fx will accelerate by itself up to 75 or until it sences something ahead. Happened to me a few times, sharp curve and distance set at max
 
I've never had issues with curves, surprisingly, but I have set the closest usually. Where I do have problems is when big rigs get in front of me and it doesn't start accelerating again until they've fully moved over, even though it could start before.

Same problem here. Does it only happen on one side of the car, or both for you?

Also, I have heard a long beep before when the system applied the brakes after a car cut me off. Any idea what it means?
 
The beep i THINK indicates either a quicker braking kind of saying the car is close? Or if it brakes and you drop below 25 mph. Since you can only use cruise above 25 tge auto braking cuts off then too. That is just what i have noticed on mine.
