1. How much would we need to buy for a FX35 versus FX50?

2. Also, is the Ester like synthetic? Right now I want to change oil every 3750 as recommended, but I'm wondering if I could do every 7000 miles if I use the more expensive Ester?

FX35 uses 5-1/8 QT

and

FX50 uses 7-18 QT

Nissan Ester oil is a regular conventional oil with ester additives, it's not a synthetic. Which kind of makes me question it in the long run.

I was doing some research and I heard Redline 5W-30 motor oil is even better than the Nissan ester oil. It's a fully synthetic oil unlike the Nissan oil and has ester additives on top of that too.

Wow the Redline oil seems like the gold of oil of what to put in our FX. I'm surprised nobody has talked about it....everybody talking about mobil 1 or others that I don't think are even fully synthetic anyway.

$10/quart and free shipping! Am I missing anything? Seems like a no brainer?

I use Mobil 1 in both of my vehicles. I prefer it because it is readily available almost anywhere. It is also the oil my Infiniti Dealer and GMC Dealer recommend and use when going to synthetic.
My top choice would be Amsoil Synthetic if it was more readily available.

I just read Amsoil Synthetic can be changed up to every 15k or even 25k miles...crazy. I wonder what the Ester stuff does and if that makes it better. Notice in the chart that redline is right after the Amsoil but maybe it didn't contain the ester stuff in those tests. Interesting stuff to read nonetheless.

I've done alot of research across other Infiniti forums, and a lot of people say Mobil 1 isn't even a full synthetic anymore like what it use to be.

I can totally believe that....kind of like Toyota...kind of like Schwinn bikes, kind of like black and Decker. They build up the name, then take drastic efforts to cut costs hoping that customers wouldn't notice. Black and decker used to be awesome tools and recently they started using plastic parts in their drills, etc and there are people still to this day that buy for the name and don't know that it's much worse than other products out there. Same with mutual funds. People research just the name or the company, but really you should be researching the fund manager. Get someone good and high profile, you get in on it, he leaves and the fund is not what you thought the fund was last 5 or 10 years.

Lessons to be learned.... :)

So if you had to choose Redline or Amsoil, which would you choose?

What does the Ester stuff do and is it worth it over the Amsoil even though it appears that is possibly better?

Ester addtives provides better lubrication and friction control. It works best when you want a quieter engine since the ester additives quiet down unwanted valvetrain noise.

Does Amsoil have ester additives in it? I know the Redline oil has it.

^^ I'm interested in above questions as well.

Also,
IMO I would use the Amsoil over the others, if you have good access for it.

If Amsoil does not contain Ester additives and Nissan recommends it, why is your recommendation this over an oil that is 100% synthetic and has the ester additives?

Would you guys happen to know what brand of oil Infiniti uses that has the ester additives (for the FX50)?

My dealership charges me an arm and a leg for an oil change with the ester additive:

$256.50 :mad.: !!!!!!!!!

I want to stop paying them so much freaking money!

I did not say Nissan/Infiniti recommended Amsoil. Check my thread again. I said my Infiniti/Nissan Dealer and my GMC Dealer both recommend and carry Mobil 1, and that is what I use because they carry it and it is readily available most places.
I did say I would probably use Amsoil if it was easier to obtain.

I have friends that have their oil analyzed on a regular basis on their Infinitis and Bimmers and they really got good results from both Amsoil and the German Castrol synthetic. This is over many years use.
Aaron, I have no idea what product has ester and what doesn't.

Then stop... DIY or local.

Redline 5W-30 is full synthetic with ester additives.

I'm going to send my motor oil to have it analyzed at Blackstone Labs, and report back. In the mean time I'm switching to Redline.
