Towed my boat with FX today

I have a 21' Mariah Z212 (not the smallest boat on the lake...) and I was concerned at first, but with the AWD, it pulled the boat with NO problems. There were diesels and other large trucks hardly getting up the boat ramp due to wheel spin. Meanwhile, I just drove up right past them! It was great because there were all looking at me funny with a big boat attached to a FX.... BTW, I installed the Hidden Hitch system. Chalk up another reason why I love my FX!!! :tup:

I'll add pics of the hitch and with my boat attached later. BTW I installed the hitch myself and it wasn't bad if you take your time.

No worries about it. My car (2006) just broke 20,000 miles... yes 20k I only tow the boat 20 miles round trip. Plus it doesn't really tax the motor that much on the highway my RPMs stayed below 3k. I have brakes on the trailer as well. All is good.

I've been thinking I need to buy an FX with factory tow package, but you say you installed it without too many problems. Who manufactures the "hidden hitch"?
 
So the 2009 models can't tow very well compared to the first gen based on specs alone... anyone with a 2nd gen tow anything? According to specs, the RWD can't tow (at least not recommended to) at all, and the AWD '35 can only pull 2k, while it takes the beefy '50 to tow 3500 lbs.

I wish the FX could do a little more in terms of towing capacity :frown:
 
I'm looking right now around for boat rentals to see what's available....I might rent a boat and then go up north with it.

Any suggestions on what I can do? I know the hitch says 3500. I'm already all prepped with the ball and hitch.

Why don't you try and rent a cabin that includes a boat, that's what we used to do in Ontario. It eliminates the hassle of towing etc.
 
I'd say the towing PITA burden is greater than the burden you'd put of the FX. How far is the drive? Can you rent something in town or just outside town of your destination?
 
im planning on towing a boat next weekend. apparently its around 3500 pounds and gonna have 5 people in it. hope the fx holds. i got a tranny cooler to help the transmission and all the gt spec bars that may help with the flex.

Andrew, most importantly don't allow thr transmission to keep shifting up and down while on the highway. If it is shifting constantly, run it in the next lower gear during your highway run, just don't over rev it.

So are you going to make it to the Ribfest on Saturday?

SO i towed it home and its actually only 2000 pounds. wasn't bad at all.

i am trying to work out some kinks for saturday. i got to attend a bidding war in the morning with my mom for a new house so hopefully it doesn't take long.

Towing with 5 people sitting in the boat! Sounds like a good time. Take a skateboard along and throw a water skier out the back on the highway!
And of course boat pictures are required.
