Duplicolor Shadow Black Chrome Spray

thats funny...i wz thinking about this stuff today, wondering how it would look om the grille and rear chrome pieces...if you use it please send pics of how it turned out.
BTW i was searching E-Bay and found this paint called liquid mercury...this looks like the ultimate, and they showed examples on a infiniti wheel...i would love to get my hands on this stuff...good luck...

Just went and bought this at pepboys for $20. States you can even use it on exhaust tips, wheels, etc. I wonder how well this will hold up. I also just ordered a new mt.fuji emblem for the hatch so I will post results later.

This stuff sounds pretty cool let us know how it goes!

I'd say wipe it down with alcohol right before spraying as you won't be able to sand at all... that should help it be a bit more durable with adhesion... if your looking to do some testing I would also consider testing an alcohol wipe, then a light mist of a clear adhesion promoter like bulldog or something, then spray... I've done similar before with VHT over chrome & it kinda works too, but not very durable long term, not bad at all but for something that takes a lot of abuse like wheels or a grille I'd think it wouldn't hold up very well long term... emblems & trim maybe better...

Sprayed my emblem and I think I put too many coats, turned out just like a gloss black instead of black tinted chrome. This stuff really sticks though, tested it on a chrome sample piece and couldn't scrape it off at all with my fingernail.

I don't think this stuff will work well because if you try to leave it with just a couple coats it kind of has a spotty-ness to it...This is why I ended up spraying many coats.

No not like fish eye spread, more like a light smoke coating with dark spots all over.

Sounds like the mix might have issues or its just super touchy. Out of curiosity have you tried it on other surfaces?

Haven't tried it on anything else, hopefully a pro painter can test this product out. Might just be my technique.

ah... read it wrong... thought you were going for a black black... i tried this same thing couple years ago.. same results.. i tried several different tips as well.. have yet to find a clear black straight from the can that doesnt go patchy.... im going to try a clear laquer mixed with black with my airbrush... hoping that turns out more like an actual spraygun...

hey by chance could you snap a pic of what it looks like? i am trying to come up with a way to paint some oem fog light housing for another car and make them have the black chrome look that the black turn signals you see all over ebay for different imports. the said fogs that i would like to paint are the only chrome things on the car so they really stand out (which i dont like) so i want the housings to look like this:

if anyone has any suggestions on how to get this finish or how the parts manufactures get it i would greatly appreciate it

also i had to put a space after the http: so i could post a link since i dont have 10 posts yet

thats the same problem like vht.. the tint is just too dark, so the first few light coats look spotty, by the time you get enough coats for even coverage it's too dark. ashley, your idea should work well, just tint it very little, till the clear just looks a little dirty but still very much clear, this way you can get multiple coats to get it nice & even & still have it be very translucent instead of just opaque... when there is no light eminating from behind the even opaque will just look solid... it don't take a lot of color to give a tinted look

any update on how it turned out?

Hate to bring up an old thread....

I took a picture of the front of my FX today to see the difference in my 6000K headlights. In any case, it is overcast today which made the grill look like black chrome! The lightbulb in my head came on. I looked at the before and after pics on the duplicolor website and was impressed. Price is right. I would love to get the liquid mercury instead but I do not have a sprayer (although I do have a compressor) and the small investment will start adding up.

In any case, any success or pictures? Also, what was the durability like? Would love to see
