Around View Camera Mod

This is confirmed to work for both '09 and '10, FX35 and FX50 vehicles. This mod will let you see the cameras at any speed.

I found that the speed sensor wire is ran directly to the "Around View Camera Unit" and not through the AV unit. Instead of going straight to the unit, which is located under the driver seat and under the carpet itself, i decided to find the closest wire-to-wire harness there was. I found the harness to be located right inside the driver kick panel. This made the mod really easy.

This mod can be finished in less than 20min.

Heres a quick video. Sorry for the bad quality, it was done with the iphone.

Remove both these kick panels:

This is the harness you are looking for. Its the only one there.

Closer view. And i circled the wire you are gonna deal with. Its the second wire from right to left, color is VIolet. If you just want to cut it, you can. Or do it in a way that you can reverse it without cutting and crimping. If you just wanna cut it then go ahead and do this and you are done. If you wanna do it the way i did then continue....

Pull the top harness off. The bottom half is mounted and wont move unless you un-clip it. To remove the wire just slide the face off with your nail.

Theres a safety plate on the bottom that you have to un-clip. Hold it open with anything really. I used a small screwdriver.

With the safety held open, use a needle and lift the safety clip holding the wire in (Looking at the face, it is located right above the wire inside the harness) and give the wire a pull from the back, it should come out easy. If it gives you a little trouble just lift the safety a little more and tug a little harder on the wire, it will come out.

After that, just clip the safety back on, put the face plate back on and use electrical tape to hold the VSS wire you removed. Put everything back and you are all done!:tup: Enjoy!!

I would actually like to be able to use this feature while driving! My cars at Best Buy right now getting an alarm installed, I'm gonna forward this to them and see if they can do this as well..

Thanks for the write up!

Thanks,. Cool Mod. I'm out of town but as soon as I get home I will do it. Is it easy to remove the kick panels for access?

Yes, everything is clipped in. For the bottom panel just give it a tug upward. For the smaller side kick panel theres a plastic nut that you can undo by hand in the back by the dead pedal, after that you can give it a good tug away from how its mounted.

I just did this mod, and it works great. Now I'm wondering if it will let me watch a movie while driving...will check it out and let u guys know

This mod will not. This is only for the cameras. If you do the navi mod it will. My DVD player, nav controls, and aux input all work while driving.

This is sooo freaking awesome!! Thanks Saleen00_227!!

Do you think its possible to install a switch to enable rear view while driving forward? Sometimes i just want to take a look at whats behind me without shifting into reverse, maybe a toggle switch above the kick panel?

Nevertheless I love this mod!! I was dreading opening up the center console (don't have my plastic trim removal tools yet), but this is perfect!

Elmo you are God of DIY you. Thanks a whole bunch for this write up. I'm not electricly proficient but this looks simple enough. Thanks!
