Service Engine Soon P2135

Hey guys,
I did a search, but it looks like most of the people who have thrown this code have a whole list of other codes going at the same time. My ride is throwing this one code only. A few weeks ago I was driving home in the snow. Right at the light at the top of my street, I step on the gas and nothing happens for a second. Then I get the SES, VDC, and SLIP lights all at once. Idle doesn't move at all, still running fine, but won't accelerate. I turn the car off, then back on. SES light is the only one that remains, but the car seems to be driving fine. I figured I'd let it go for a bit and see what happens. Couple days later I want to Autozone, and the pulled the P2135 code. Something about the throttle positions sensors. Still let it go another week or so, and the SES light actually went off by itself. Another 3 or 4 days go by, with no more issues since the first one, then this past Friday the same thing happened again, twice. Car still seems to drive fine, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and what the fix is? I'm think I probably just need to clean my throttle body, but I was hoping someone else would have had the same issue, and can tell me what their fix was. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Just had this...

Everything can be running normally...you come to a light, hit the gas and.... nothing. The FX goes into EXTREME limp mode, it will only move at about 3mph with the gas pedal floored....and the VDC SLIP SES lights are on. Turn the car off and back on and the car will have the SES light on only. After a number of restarts, I think Infiniti said 35 - 50 the SES will go out. But, do not think the problem went away, it will come again. I stopped letting my wife drive the car due to not knowing when this situation might occur, it can be very dangerous. Imagine pulling out into traffic and getting absolutely no response from your car. When I brought mine into the dealer, they found it had tripped the P2135 code 22 times!

You need a new throttle body. Once the throttle position sensors are out of whack, it's done. Infiniti wont even mess with it. They will just throw on a new one. Falls under Powertrain warranty 72 months or 70,000 mile, GET IT DONE NOW!

One of the reasons I love this site!!!

This exact thing happened to me yesterday. Funny thing is - I read this thread three days ago when I was just browsing threads! Is that lucky or what?!?

So I have a couple thoughts about this.

1) I just had my engine dyno tuned a couple weeks ago. I've driven the car for less than a week because I've been out of town. It's always a little suspicious when something goes out just after you have work done, you know?

2) I've taken off my Throttle Body a couple times - once to clean out the entire intake & plenum, and once to install the Saikou oil catch. I also cleaned the TB during my intake cleaning, taking care not to move the throttle plate and it has been working for months after the reinstalling.

3) I have an aftermarket ground on the Throttle Body - linked straight from the negative terminal on the battery to the small nut on the top of the TB.

Since I had the "no power" event last night, it hasn't happened again. After turning the car off and then back on again, all the lights cleared and I drove all the way home normally. This morning, drove to breakfast, and back home again with a stop for shopping and never had an issue. I'm guessing I will probably throw these lights again and it would be safest to just replace the throttle body.

I wonder if I should first try removing the ground wire or should I just wait to see if it happens again?

Then I was also thinking I could do the throttle position reset procedure as a precaution. Maybe the WOT position was changed with the tune?

Not sure if either of these things would tell me very much or if I should just replace the TB and be done with it?

It still totally trips me out that I just happened to read this thread two days before it happens to me. What a random deal - but lucky.

I guess I'm not 100% convinced that I need a brand new throttle body. I'm going to try my luck with cleaning it. If it is functioning perfect 99.9% of the time then I doubt it needs a replacement. If I was still under warranty I would be more than happy to let them replace it, but I'm pretty sure I'm shit out of luck with my 04. Light turned off on its own again this morning. Going to buy the supplies to clean it, and if it happens again i'll take it apart and see what I can do.

Jumbo and GChristopher,

Both of you are probably going to need new throttle bodies. You both have 2004's, same as mine. You have till whenever your car was built in 2004 (example July) of this year (2010) for the warranty, or 70,000 miles. Infiniti knows about this problem, and they will just exchange it for a brand new one. Why mess with it at all when you can get a new one?? These TB are VERY sensitive, just taking it off can mess up the sensors, cleaning it can mess up the sensors, it a real sensitive piece.

Jumbo, take off you Ground wires connected to the throttle body before taking it in. Give them no reason to void your warranty. They can't void it for ecu reprogamming, and they will never know about the ecu tune anyways.

Gchristopher, the TB cleaning is not really going to work. I had that done already. A dirty throttle bodies sysmptoms are : Stalling upon starting...You turn over the engine, it starts and revs to about 1000rpm and then just dumps. You have to keep the gas pedal down in order not to stall out. Once running it's fine, but starting the FX is a bitch. I had Infiniti do it for $80 2 years ago...look on the org you will see my post regarding this.... and now it is standard procedure for a dirty throttle body on the org......these symptoms are way different. The start is perfect, it runs perfect, and then out of nowhere the car gets no response from the gas pedal/TB. It's a sensor, and nothing that can be cleaned or replaced..the whole TB has to go, as they don't sell the sensors for it seperately.

Just trying to get you into a dealer before the warranty runs out on your FX. You guys might still be under warranty..I still have only 60K miles on mine. A new TB is around $230 (Riverside Infiniti ebay) if your warranty is expired.

Good Luck

Is there a service bulletin that I can bring to the dealer that states this is a known issue? Otherwise I'll bet they tell me to get lost.

I just spoke with the dealer and they said powertrain warranty is 5 years or 70k. Not 6 years or 72k

So this morning I had another failure event - but this one was different. Driving to work in the morning about 30 minutes into the ride I am exiting the highway. I had been up to 110mph about five minutes ago. The SES, VDC and Slip light come on, so I expect to lose throttle. But I test it out and the throttle is still working! I play with it a little and go to switch my Blitz throttle controller off when I notice it has shorted out - no display lights! Pushing the face of the controller got rid of the short and that is where I then lose throttle response as the Blitz light comes back on. I roll to a stop light and turn off the car and turn it back on again - everything clears.

So now I'm absolutely convinced I have a short in the Blitz unit, causing a loss of pedal signal. Background on the Blitz:

///7699

If I remove the Blitz, I bet I don't throw any more lights. Probably not a TB issue at all, as I thought. Since I already bought a polished TB, my old one should still be fine and I might be able to get my core deposit back. Wonder how to test it to make sure? Need to pull the Blitz and ride around for a few days to see I throw the lights again...

I had a similar issue and my car would shut off. Same code, and it would go away (after the system performs a self check and it passes), so it was intermittent (maybe 3x in two years). The last time it happened the car went into limp mode. Took it back to the dealer and was told it was a ground problem on the cam position sensor. Fixed under warranty (even though my car is out of warranty). Hasn't happened since.

Are you guys sure its covered under warranty?

I have a g35 coupe and just started to experience this and was perusing the different Infinity/Nissan groups regarding this and this site was the only one that mentioned with conviction that its covered under warranty (powertrain 6/72). I was at the Infiniti dealer this morning (Infiniti of Tysons Corner) and the service adviser told me it was not covered under any warranty. My basic has expired, but my powertrain expires in October of 2011 or in my case in about 1000 miles (68.3k). The cost quotes was 590.00 dollars for parts and labor. It miffs me if it is covered . I'll call another dealer in the morning to verify.

Yeah, late to the party ...I know.

same codes as mines after i installed aftermarket speakers. i hope tho its just a lil short circuit that i could fix.
coz this is what autozone found P2135it ,says this
definition:
sensor circuit range/performance problem and
signals do not agree

probable cause:
open or short circuit condition or poor electrical connection or failed tp senso

Does the code go away after the throttle body was changed or do u still got to hook it up to a computer and do that like does the c/e light go away and when u put the new one on did anyone rpm go crazy or was everything normal after this was put on
