I've read several threads. Now that some of you have mounted these tires, which ones, whose happier? I currently have a price of $723 for the Yokohama,s and $830 for the Toyo's. Although Les Scwhab said they would match.

Thanks, Ron

OK, I was looking through the traditional paths. The Hankook is a better looking tire. Are people happy with them. Also, I see people listing different sizes as in 265/40/22. Are there advantages to this size?

Everyone that has them, loves them. Great price for a load capable W rated tire. (168 mph)
& as I was saying before, they are built differently than a 50 series. I just found this weight comparison. Bigger tire, yet less weight

285/35/22 102W 420 A A 36.3 lbs
265/50/20 112W 420 A A 37.9 lbs

265-40-22 is close to the original tire diameter for a 22 inch rim

you can use the tire calculator to see this

I really like the Hankooks I recently purchased

I had a tire rep from American Tire tell me the Yokohamas are a better all around tire. He could get me either the Hankook's or the Yokohama's. He said the Hankook's are a harder tire. Feedback?

The kooks are actually pretty soft. Although the Pradas are a great tire, the kooks are better handlers.
Probably a larger margin for the rep on the Yoks. Cant trust anyone these days

I'm looking for the better handling tire, although I live in the northwest with lots of rain and potential for hydroplanning. Based on this thread I'm leaning to the kooks.

You are right on your observations. Many have posted Hankook RH06 Ventus have been very good tires in terms of wet, dry and even snow traction. Tires are suprisingly soft and last very long. Throw in being a very cost competitive tire, hard to beat.

They are also not hard to balance.

If you look at the thread design of the Ventus, the grooves are large, if not the largest. There are big channels for water to escape, helping with resisting hydroplaning. The thread depth is one of the deepest when new.

That being said, these tires will feel like you are on rails in the rain from personal experience.

I ran 265/50/20 on OEM wheels and 265/40/22 on aftermarket 22" wheels. I currently run goodyear's as I got a great price on them and they are longer tire wear (500 vs 420).

My winter set up is a Hankook iPike winter tire 265/50/20.

Just make sure you find a place that has a Hunter Roadforce balancer. Tell them, "Get as close to Zero on your reading as the FX is very sensitive to vibrations. Also, put the lowest numbers on the front."

Basically the lower the number, the more balanced it is.

What's the widest kook tire size (widest as in tread width) that you can put on the OE 20" rims (are they 7"?) without looking for problems?

Thanks Stu. I'm thinking about replacing the OE tires with something having a wider profile. The 8" rim is a bit limiting.

No problem. As you can see I'm running 275s on the OEM 20's. Honestly, I don't notice much more bulge. I think it helps that it's a smaller sidewall too. It's only 1 cm wider overall, so .5 cm bulge on each side would be added theoretically.

Hankook Ventus /

Hey guys. Just got my 30k service and Hankook's Ventus tires put on at dealer. Should be happy, but a little annoyed. Tires make ride nice, but when i brake steering wheel shakes. Meaning to me that they didn't do a wheel alignment or balance the tires right. I bought Mobile 1 so they can add it, and they didn't. Got new wipers and they don't come with plastic cover over clip that goes over indicator, eye sore. My air filter box was not closed properly, and they left part of their lunch under hood. I already prepared a speech. I'm pissed. They should have checked brakes in the 30k service. First thing. Going to speak to service manager. Thanks.

I doubt it is a balance issue, you would feel that while just driving down the road. My wheel shakes a bit when braking because of warped rotors, and it did last year as well prior to Infiniti replacing my front rotors. I am also still fighting a slight shimmy at higher speeds...8th balance here I come!

I think an FX owner is lucky to get 15-30k miles out of a set of rotors before they need to be cut or replaced. Hell, my front replacement rotors started to vibrate while braking not even 5k miles after they were put on my car. Personally think the stock rotors are garbage; haven't had the same problem with Centric Premiums.
