Beat an HHR "SS"

I was at a stoplight and a Chevy HHR SS pulls up next to me.

About 1/4 mile up, the road narrows to one lane. In this situation, I usually like to get ahead of the guy next to me before it narrows.
When the light turned green, I started out only slightly faster than normal when I heard the HHR squeal and the engine race. I stepped on it too. He was about 1/2 car ahead and I started to gain. We got up to about 70 and by then I was about 1 1/2 lengths ahead. Good thing because my lane was gone.
At the next light he got into the turn lane, all his windows were tinted so I couldn't see who it was.
The 5 speed stick version has 260 hp and the auto, 235 hp. It may have been a stick because I heard the tires squeal, Gm has a loft of torque management and stuff to keep you from spinning the tires.
 
I had an Altima trying to race me yesterday morning on my way to work. Not sure if it was a 2.5 or a 3.5. I didn't get to see the rear. But it was an 07+ altima. At one point we were doing 120+ on the 10. yeah, I know bad thing to do, but there was hardly anyone on the freeway. But it sure was fun, but not if I would have gotten a ticket. >= ( No more for me. Too bad the adrenaline feels so good.
 
mine handles great. no complaints. I'm even lowered on cut H&R's (front only, half coil)

How do you know he was trying to race you? Was there any indication? Or was he driving fast, passed you and you automatically assumed he wanted to run?
 
Hard to say how it handles at 120, since I usually am going in a straight line at high speeds. Rides nice though.

yeah, came from behind and then tried to pass me and then we just went at it. down shifted and just passed him when he tried getting next to me.
 
actually the 10 fwy has some curve and slight up and downs to it going through the IE
 
haha. i got mine to 145 mph down the 15 late at night when there was no one to be sceen and it handled better then i thought it would! i have dun the same and faster in some BMWs and it was pritty close to the same feeling. i defenetly know the adrenaline feeling and it is so good!!!:wink:
 
Ya i did 135 and it felt very planted, deff didnt give turning a try at that speed, keep in mind it is still an suv/crossover i doont care what braces, latters, or bars you have lol

Cobalt SS is not slow. Beats the FX to 60 by about a second, and in the 1/4 by 1.5 seconds.
 
I would deff assume it is faster even without knowing the specs, its a supercharged 4cyl thats half the weight of an FX (exaggeration) lol
 
Well it's FWD for one thing. Obviously it's no Camaro SS. But mid 5's 0-60 and 14 second 1/4 is pretty decent.
And since you said the Cobalt is slow like the HHR, which is being referenced in this thread to an FX, one could assume you are comparing the Cobalt to the FX.

but yeah. for the money/badge they are both slow.
