I was wondering about this, because I was having some fun with my FX one night coming home from plaza so i decided to floor it past another FX. I'm not sure if it is supposed to go to the red zone or not.
When you floor the gas in Automatic, is it made to reach the RPM red zone or not?
i drove home past weekend.. and i was wondering how is it that you being hitting 6k rpm so easily.. so i decide to see if i could managet o do the same.. i realized i only hit 4-5.. after that it keep going up easily.. so stop having a led foot!!!!

Maybe it depends what year FX you have, what year is yours btw? mines an 08

No, it will not damage anything. Just for peace of mind, Tadashi told me they pushed a non-built VQ on the dyno at 8000 rpm for 15+ minutes straight before it broke. Motor is therefore damn strong!
redline is after 6 1/2. I think it will not harm the engine as long as you don't hit the redline.
I shift at 6 1/2 in manu. In second and third gear I can shift pass 6 1/2 .. maybe 6 3/4 .. In first gear it is shorter so you have shift earlier at 6 1/4

FYI, redline wont hurt you either. Mines set for 7500, yet I've seen it do slightly higher than that over at TS. As long as you dont live in the redline, you can hit the limiter from time to time without a worry.
there is no upshift but there is rev limiter.
At what RPM does the rev limiter kick in?
Maybe at 6750 .. the best way to figure it out is to try it. Drive it pass to the redline. Try to shift at 6750 if it hit the rev limiter try again to shift a little before it.
I used to shift before at 6000, 6250 ! after that I tried and find out that I can take it till 6500 in first and 6750 in second and third gear without hiting the rev limiter.
I just took it out for a drive and had it up to 7700 rpm with no sign of a limiter...
:err:! maybe my ECU acts different ! I live in middle east maybe we have different features than the american ones. For example, All FX35 comes with standard packages and the temperature is always at 1/4. Also my FX Autoshifts from 4th gear to 5th at certain RPM.
I will get a definitive answer for us tomorrow. I will just go out when it's quiet and drive it in first gear until it cuts out. I will post up what I find tomorrow. But I know it's higher than 7700 rpm.
I should have added I guess that there is the possibility that the FX doesn't have one. But I assumed it was pretty much standard in all modern cars.

Thanks for the video. That looks like a pretty standard rev limiter. Mine just revs all the way to 8000 rpm with no limiter in sight.
It didn't appear as if your car "bogs" or "cuts out" at the limiter which is nice. Some limiters like BMW have a cut-out where the engine doesn't actually cut out but bogs down as if you have lost power if you surpass the limiter. For example on the later model E46 M3s BMW started to set a limiter at 5000 rpm that they would remove after the 1000 mile service. It prevented people from destroying their engines revving it past 8500 rpm straight out of the dealership and on test drives. My dealer let me borrow a new M3 once and didn't tell me about the limiter and I took it back thinking there was something wrong with it. It was the slowest M3 in existence, LOL!!
Bottom line is, my FX either doesn't have a limiter OR it has been deactivated. It would be interesting to hear from other 08 FX owners to see if this is standard or not.
