Pulstar Spark Plugs

Got to get the information out to the masses!

Really glad I spend too much time on here now, and not over there anymore...otherwise I might have joined in the group buy. And I would have lost $98 that I could put into my FX!:driver:

Great info brotha! Quality control is poor these days. Were these made in China? lol.

Uhm...I wish I'd seen this thread last week...because I just installed these plugs yesterday :err:. Hopefully my FX will be an exception, and nothing will go wrong. So far things seem to be okay. No stalling, irregular rpm, etc. I guess time will tell, I'll keep you guys posted.

does it feel any stronger?
It actually does. I don't know if it's because they're simply new plugs, or I just wanna believe that they're that good...but the FX feels peppier, and lighter on it's feet.

Like most of you FX'ers, I have my favorite spots where I like to enjoy my FX. I know exactly how my FX performs on certain stretches of highway, on ramps, etc. So I think I'll be able to tell if there is a difference once I'm able to go through those spots in the next couple of days.

The guys on my other forum loved them when they first put them on. Stronger pull, little more torque, and smoother idle. After your next oil change, check them out and see if they look like that first pic...and make sure non of them are broken.

They did say they were working on fixing the insulator issue..so maybe you got the fixed ones.

I definitely will check...now I'm paranoid :afraid:...

I really hope so. I can't even imagine what a PITA it must be to remove broken plugs :err:.

So does anyone using these plugs have a new update?? what is the story behind them beside the fact that they are breaking in half... hey bigTurk how are they still performing? have you check to see if they have snapped in half?.. just post some updates thank!!

I don't wanna jinx my FX by saying this...but *knocks on wood* everything seems to be okay so far. The performance is still there, no broken plugs, no stalling or irregular rpm .

great thanks! i think i will give them a shot....

I assume they test these against brand new sparkplugs? Also, I remember the Z dyno actually showed some loss in power across the band or something like that. Can't seem to find a pic of the dyno, but they used to be in Motor Trends, Car and Drivers, or the like.

Update on the pulstar plugs. I guess they finally stepped up the quality of these things. The following quote is from a rep of pulstar, from another forum on 2/13/09:

"Hey everyone.

Since the overwhelming majority of concerns are about quality, I'm gonna address that. There really isn't any denying it, we had quality issues. Front wheel drive v6s are hard enough to install plugs in without having to additionally deal with a brittle plug. We've changed a couple of things recently(within the last 2-3 months) both inside and outside of the plug that have increased the physical strength of it by a lot. Last I saw the numbers it looked like 2-3 times(to double again in a few weeks). Most of the issues I've run into are around installation time. If they'd been installed and worked fine they'd almost always last as long as the electrode took to wear down. I recently installed the EF1 plugs in my mom's Fusion, started her car, made sure everything was fine, and shut it off. The next time she started the car was to start her 800 mile drive home from El Paso with long stretches of nothing in that trip(I10 between El Paso and San Antonio is 6 hours and there is maybe 3 actual towns for that stretch). I was confident enough in what we have to do that; the first time the engine reached operating temp with the new plugs was when she was leaving town.

I look forward to working with you guys. I'm not in customer service, marketing, or sales but feel free to use me as your primary contact for the company for anything and everything. I enjoy working on cars as I'm sure everybody here does; if I wasn't sure about the product being something I'd want in my car(or my mom's) I wouldn't be here.

Once we get the section opened I'll speak with some people here and see what all I can do for you guys."

Nice of them to finally come around and admit their plugs were crap. For $150, I would buy 2 sets of stock plugs and not worry about it ever again. Also, people are still complaining about lowered gas mileage, but they are having smoother idle. One more thing is, that you can actually order what gapping you need now from them, instead of them just basically guessing what you should use.

I guess BIGTURK got lucky and got one of the revamped stronger sets.

Thanks for the info toy4x, I feel better now. Everytime I was in the FX, I was watching the idle, waiting for stupid things to happen. But I guess if anything was to happen, it would have happened by now...no jinx, no jinx... :afraid:

hey big turk are you still using these spark plugs? and also would they be ok for me to change to these?
I have a 05 fx45 with 50k miles... thx
