Wheel help please

Looking at a set of wheels, 20's to be exact. Getting rid of the stocker 18's. Wheel dimension is 20x8.5 +25mm What tire is going to look best on this offset and width. I do hope to lower it on H&R's too. Not sure what the stock offset so not sure what it would look like. Do I need spacers? I would like it to be close to the edge of the fender too. Thanks

Please do a few searches, as all of these questions have been covered. There's also a sticky at the top of this very sub-forum that has most of the answers you're looking for.

Yeah, I think a few guys just asked this question yesterday, and you will get a few different answers of course. As for the spacers I would put my wheels and tires on, then measure for the spacers if you need them. Reason for this is tire bulge; differet tire brands may sit differently on your wheels.

Well I've been searching through all the threads, even to find stock offset and only found that a guy had +15 and that was 38mm over stock. So thats telling me that stock is 23mm offset inside? If you could tell me the name of the thread, i'll do the rest. Thanks

Edit: So going by the calculator, it ends up being 9mm more clearance to the strut tower and will extend an extra 21mm more which is not quite 7/8".

275/40/20 is a .81% too slow, meaning 60mph reading is 59.5 mph actual.
285/35/20 is 2.077% too fast, meaning 60mph reading is 61.2 mph actual.

There ya go

Extra 21mm over stock is perfect. I ran 20mm spacers on all 4 when I had my stock 20's on, and had to go down to 15mm in front b/c the extended studs weren't doing the trick. I really liked the look of the 20mm spacers, and to me it was perfectly flush.

Well wheels are ordered. Wondering which tire would look best now.
275/40/20
or
285-35-20

I want a little bulge but if I drop it I don't want to deal with rubbing. Any suggestions?

rubbing is due to wheel offset (for the MOST part). . . and you already ordered it. Your definitely NOT going to rub with the 5Zigens your ordered. you might even want to consider wheels spacers.

anything less than +20mm will have a chance of rubbing (general rule)

Whaaat? +25 offset and you're talking about running spacers??? He'll be perfectly fine, no issue with rubbing lol...

As your 5zigen brother. I have 20x9.5 and I am running 295/45. I tried to stick as close to stock diameter as possible and 295/45 was the best. We should have a tire size calculator somewhere. That is what i used since everyone had different thoughts on this.

O and if you haven't read up on my 5zigen post, the wheel caps on those wheels will not fit on the rear wheels. I ended up taking off all 4 of them.

i think it looks fine without caps but it will most likely bother you in the beginning.

your right, +25 will be good to go... (cause ~5mm is no big deal)

your so Authoritative Frank, must be the Navy training lol

I actually plan on making some custom caps and remembered reading about your dilemma. No biggie for me as I have a lathe at work. Its only the rears so making a few for board members won't be bad. Might have to charge though since I'd be doing them on work time :)

sign me up on custom caps

You might as well do custom front ones too to match the rears. I didn't like the caps all that much. It's nothing like the caps I had for my racing harts.

Let's see some pix when you get something fabricated.

I'll post up when I do. I don't have a mill so not sure how they'll turn out other than a smooth front. I'll think of something.

It wasn't working for me actually and I checked. I do have java activated on my comp. Anyway, i used one from 1010. I'll pick out some tires tomorrow, prob the 275's and when the wheels come in, I'll order up some H&R's.
