Wheel Alignment: Dealership or Specialty Shop

Could not find a thread with this issue specifically. Ok, Im lowered with new shocks and wheels. My question is I went to a shop to get an alignment and they said I had to go to infiniti. I wend to a Mr Tire and they said they can only align to factory specs, anything else would be guessing. Im sure its was the same issue as the first. So is the only place I can go is to a specialty shop?????????? Or is Infiniti the only place that can recalculate the alignment measurements correctly. I need a quick answer, since Im off for the next two days I would like to get this done. Thanks in advance.

Had my alignment done a month or so ago at a tire shop. I do not know what why they say they can't do an alignment. Even with your 22's all they need to do is put it back to stock specs which they should have that info. My rears are still out of spec and needs a camber kit installed. I'm waiting till summer when I will replace the rear tires. But the camber is not out all that much.

The second shop, Mr Tire said they could do it, but it would not be in spec of my current setup; lowered. So are you saying that aligning it to stock specs is ok, wouldn't that cause uneven wear? It funny because at the Mr Tire shop they have 22" wheels and an Eibach Pro Kit on display. I asked him why do you have lowering systems if you don't know how to align correctly. He says its just for show...lol. Thanks

Yes, there is no special alignment you need with 22's. You just need to have them put the alignment back to stock specs or close as possible. Like I said you may be out of spec in the rears even with an alignment but the fronts should be doable. The only thing that will probably be off is the camber in the rear like post have experienced with lowering and 22 wheels..

when you drop the fx, the rear camber increases a bit & the toe changes front & rear. the front doesn't really alter camber as it just pretty much comes straight down.

the toe change is the biggest concern, & this is what will add to instability & increase tire wear the most. usually best to get an alignment at least a week or 2 after the drop so the springs settle to it's final height. toe should be no problem for them to adjust, & yeah, factory specs are ideal even with the larger wheels. like's been said, the rears may not be able to come 100% back to stock specs because of the drop, BUT, a little increased camber is not necissarily a bad thing... most performance tuners will add a little camber to a performance spec. anyway to improve high speed handling through the twisties, bad toe is the #1 killer of tires & is the main reason to get the alignment after the drop. any alignment shop should be able to do an alignment, no need to go to the dealer

Thanks, the shop that put the springs/shocks on will do the alignment. At least that is what they told me on the phone. Didn't want to go back them only because they are not in my town. Anyway thanks again.

Believe it or not I ended up going back to the dealership (Nissan, right down the road vs 25 miles to Infiniti) , and they were the cheapest...$89.95...lol.
