Trunk/Hatch

Hey guys.. my trunk wont open, i tried the lever inside the trunk and it does nothing. I have locked and unlocked it and tried and still nothing. If i press the button to open it i can hear the motor for about 1.5 seconds then about 10 seconds later it sounds for 1.5 seconds again and either way it wont open. I bought it like this, so i have no idea if it has a lock actuator like the other doors on the vehicle. If you lock the FX do you hear it lock the trunk too? Also is this the kind of trunk that you slam shut or just gently close it and it sucks itself shut? Thanks a lot and any insight would be awesome. If someone could even tell me how it normally operates too please.

04 FX35 with technology package, if it matters.

It is not the slam shut type. I remember back in the day watching a video of some chick testing out the FX and she slams the trunk and everybody's reply had something to do with wincing at it.

I had an '89 Lincoln Continental that needed a $150 replacement motor for the trunk because somebody shut it and then pushed it down. Same is true with the FX, if you gently let it close, it will latch and draw in by itself. No need to put much force behind closing it.

As for the inside latch doing nothing... what exactly does it do? Do you feel any resistance at all? I've used that inside latch that's behind the plastic tab a few times before... try it again from the inside and put a little force behind the door itself.

When you hear the motor chugging away, do you see the hatch move at all?

The lever inside dosent feel like its doing much (no resistance), i took a piece of wire and jumped the motor, it works fine from one side of the gear to the other, when the motor reaches the opposite side of the gear it actually sucks the door in more...and then i try the leaver an still nothing...clear as mud right? i suck ass at explaining things..thanks for the quick reply

Who did you buy it from and can you take it back to them to fix? Or was this private party and something he told you about and you knowingly bought it with this issue as an incentive to lower the price?

Nah i bought it like this knowing it dident work, i like messing around with stuff so its not a big deal but i also thought it was going to be easy..and i refuse to take it back, i couldent be botherd to take it back there, would rather take it to infiniti dealer. So when you lock your FX, does the trunk lock too? can you hear it back there? Thanks

yes, when you lock the FX all doors and hatch lock.

When you unlock (with ikey) it unlocks just that one door with a single push of the button (on the door handle) and then a 2nd push unlocks all doors/hatch

Stuck? Ionno... it just seems very strange that there is no resistance behind the lever inside. I would think it would be stuck too given the symptoms :frown: I'm a bit confused as to what's going on/why it won't open... can you see what it's caught on? Does it physically move in or out when trying ANYTHING like opening from the outside or unlocking the doors, etc?

i appreciate the replies guys and thanks a lot for helping me figure out what the problem is.

So, if the door is locked or unlocked, i still have no action on the manual lever inside the trunk. outside all i get is 1/8th turn on the motor after i hit the button to open the trunk. I cant get the door to do anything, unless i supply power to the motor via power wire from a positive source, and when i touch either wire, the motor moves one way and the other when i touch the other wire... seems like its working ok but it still wont open...so thats what makes me think if there is a lock solenoid that its not unlocking then its not going to open even if i jumper the motor..right? I have a ALLDATA account and i have looked on there and dident find much..if you feel like looking around on there Frank i will pm you the password and link, even give it to you for helping me..Thnks again

Is that similar to the rear passenger door unlocking problem? I had the similar problem with my gas compartment door. It was the actuator that needs to be replaced.

FIXED!! after hours of F*cking around i finally figured out the 2 license plate bolts had seized, someone had cut them and they fell in the rear of course and caused the hatch to jam up. So now it works.. Thanks for all the help!
