There are a couple ways you can mount the V1. I also have the V1 and I had my audio guy hardwire it so is powered auto when the car is started. Another way is to called the invisicord and that wired to the electrical wires from the rear view mirror. Then both can be mounted using Mike's mount which will mount to the brace of the rear view mirror so there is no shaking or vibration. Sorry i don't have any pictures as this was awhile ago and I can't seem to find the pictures or links on the org. But here is a link to Mikes mount http://www.countryjoycrafts.com/ConnectorForRadarDetector.htm

The countryjoy mount is nice. If you have some padding to add to the top of the Valentines clip mount it helps with vibrations. The little cheater wire is nice, powers through the rear view mirror plug.

what about the k40? it's 200$ cheaper, but apparently it works the same with less alerts (v1 picks up everything). any opinions on this?

I've had cheaper model detectors and my last few have been the escort solo, x50 and currently the v1. There is a difference. I heard Bell's top end models work good but I really like the v1 although it does pick up everything like you say but better that then missing one when you really need it.

I picked up a X50 a few weeks ago - been meaning to take some pics of it. I'll try to do it this weekend. But I got Mikes mount - hes on my350z and I got the invisicord with it also.

No Mute on it - all it does is supplies power.

The solo2 and x50 both come with automute. So theres no real need for that extra piece unless you want a much closer visual warning...say near the instrument cluster. I had that piece when i had the x50 in the FX but I hardly used it cause the x50 already had the automute feature. Now I just wish the v1 had it also.

btw, not to veer off topics... but FYI cuz a lot of people don't know this, Beltronics and Passport IS the same company... my Beltronics RX65 is basically the same as the Passport X50, though not as nice looking as the blue display (of the X50)... I went with the RX65 because if you buy directly from them, they have a trade in program... send them any ol' P.O.S. radar detector and they'll credit you back up to $80!!! I think it's suppose to be the same program with the X50, but when I was ordreing it over the phone, they told me I wouldn't get as much credit if I was going with the Passport, so I just went the RX65 route. (oh, and I traded in a p.o.s. cobra detector)

pretty much, it's funny cuz when I was ordering it, the operator told me that if you were to open up a X50 and a RX65 the insides are pretty much identical, and yet... they have all these people out there doing comparos giving one a better rating than the other when the results are more or less subjective. So, I asked her... "how do I know you're not just saying that?" She then told me that it made absolutely no difference to her if I didn't want to order the RX65 but want to go with the X50 instead, cuz she could still take my order... She said that when they answer the calls, the phones let them know if people are calling the Beltronics line or Passport line... and they answer accordingly. She was pretty honest over the phone, actually talked me out of buying the top of the line STI model cuz it's pointless for me... saved me like over $100.
