Odometer way off

Hi everyone! This is my first post here and I'm hoping someone can help me.
I'm leasing a FX35 and I'm having a promlem with my speed/odometer. Compaired to my Garmin GPS, it's always been about 5 MPH fast but I replaced my 265/50/20 Goodyears with 275/45/20 Michelins. Now it's off (faster) by 8-10 MPH and my odometer is reading 10.9 miles for every 10 miles I drive. So basically, it's adding miles that I haven't driven and may need to pay for. Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks!

That can't be good. How are you sure that Garmin GPS is correct?

I think there was an odometer issue posted somewhere. I'm sure others will chime in.

try going in and seeing if the dealership can calibrate to the tire size you're running. if it's not a stock size, they may try to charge you but i can't guarantee that. just explain that there is a problem and see what you can get them to do.

you gotta figure that there will be a discrepancy between the two units measuring distance. 1. the garmin isn't physically attached to the vehicle, so they may not accept it as an "accurate" source to compare to. 2. the garmin may be slightly off also.

either way 8-10% is pretty different so have it looked at. on mine when you set the cc to maybe 65 or so, the speedometer reads at 67ish. so, even inside the vehicle there can be a little deviation in what different devices determine the speed is.

According to our tire calculator your tire swap should only be off approx 2.3% meaning if your speedo read 60 mph you would actually only be going 58.6 mph. So your situation cannot only be caused by the tires change. I think your Garmin is off and needs calibration. And welcome to the iS community!

I agree with the Garmin possibly being off by a bit. Your wheel setup will be off by a bit as you probably already know, but if the Garmin is also off a little, that can compound it.

From what I recall when I was trying to find a solution for the odo/speedo being off, there isn't one. The regular calibration places can't do anything with ours...

I'd be more willing to bet there's a problem with the car. GPS mile-logging is standard practice in the trucking industry for its accuracy and is a more precise replacement for the analog airspeed indicators in aircraft.

It's a known problem, I hope this isn't the first time people have noticed their odometer reads fast... Adding smaller outer diameter tires doesn't help either.

I called Infiniti more than once and I keep getting transfered to different people who really don't have anything to tell me. I also talked to one of my customers who who works at an aerospace (Nortrup-Gruman?) firm who told me that a GPS is the most accurate way to measure speed and distance. I actually hope it's the GPS but I don't think so.

this happens to me alot. my radar detector is a cobra r9g and it comes with the satellite connectivity and can tell me my exact speed. I also have a garmin gps that tells me the exact speed as well. Whenever i go 45 mph it will say 39 mph on the gps and radar detector. The odometers are off by about 5-8 mph compared to the gps and radar detector being the exact same.
