So I have only just begun to get into my mods - at this point I have done only the Stillen Cold Air Intake. My question after reading most of these threads is this:

Has anybody looked at the benefits of keeping to one manufacturer? Does Stillen design their components to work "best" with each other? Or does it not really matter? I can definitely see how some brands might be known for a particular thing, so it wouldn't surprise me if the answer is just - it's up to me, my goals, and what I like. But a friend refered me to DSport magazine - Oct 07 issue featuring the 350Z (same engine as our FX) and many mods were made and then tested on a dyno. Results showed varied performance of certain types of mods and from different shops. All it did was confuse me. Please help!

Good question.

Like suspension some things are better mixed than all from one brand. Some companies specialize in certain things others will try to make many things but not specialize in any particular product type. We're limited in suspension but some of the best coil over companies will not make any kind of sways or end links or bracing.

The beauty of mix & match is that everyone has something diff & special. Keeps things interesting. Research your stuff & pick what's gonna work best for you.
BTW, Welcome to IS, & please show us your Laser Red.

All dyno's are different so I would take those results with a grain of salt. There are so many variables that no one can really say which mods will get you the most gains. But there are basic guidelines you can follow for modding your FX from past experiences from other members and which mods they have done. Also, ask specific questions and I'm sure someone will be glad to help out, but do read up on all the mods that have already been researched and tested to work with the FX. Good luck and welcome to the Scene!

Thanks - all. I'm thinking headers and exhaust next, but maybe I'll hold off on the headers if there is a turbo that would make them useless. It seems like the two major exhausts are Stillen and Nismo. My buddy here in town recommends buying my cats and having a custom job done - he thinks it will be cheaper than the other options out there and he knows a couple of shops that can knock it out. Sound like good advice?

If you're considering boosting that think about everything it may replace before buying anything else.
