Gas Mileage

Hello,
This is my first post; I have a 2004 FX 45 that I just recently purchased. I love it; but do not love the gas mileage. Any suggestions to get a 1-3 mile per gallon improvment? And car-pooling is not an option.

Thank you,

What are you currently averaging? if you are getting 18mpg for example on an FX45 than there really isnt much room for improvement to get better gas mileage.

put sharp spikes on your gas pedal & drive with no shoes:tongue:

seriously, your driving habits are one major factor that will cause a wide variation in milage... past that a better airfilter & free flowing exhaust can help a bit too, but not if that's gonna make you say "oh, more power!" & then gun it even more:smile:

wow - Pierce must be right, cuz I got crazy mods and Im getting 18.5.
I must be granny'ing mine too much.......

Well recently, I did a little test and it does seem that driving habits are the no.1 thing that determines gas mileage, well for me at least. I had been averaging about 13 miles/gl with spirited driving every chance I got and going about 80-90mph on the freeways when I commute. But with my simple release of the pedal and driving like Will most of the time  (not going over 75mph on the freeways and babying the FX locally) I am currently avg. 16 mpg. Not a huge improvement but better to fill up every 4.5th day then every 3rd day. Thats what I found with my little experiment.

Maintain 60 mph

60 mph on the highway gets you 26-32 mpg. People say, "NOOO, you only get around 18-20", that's because those morons forget to reset the MPG calculator, 18-20 mpg is just an average of all previous mph.

Next time you drive on an open highway, reset that mpg calculator, coast at a constant 60 mph, and notice how decent your mpg will be.

yup, #1 thing to improve your milage would be the way you drive...there is nothing you can do that will effect it more besides buying a different car.

i went from 22MPG to 31MPG in my civic by just changing the way i drive

lowering your FX will help some because of the better aerodynamics also adding an intake should do a little bit too

Yep all is driving habit

I have a FX45 and I get about 15 mpg local and about 19-20 highway, Avg is about 17 mpg for both local and highway.

Total Mile on a full tank is about 325 to 340 (I belive the tank is a 21 gallon)

How I achieve it is how I drive:

1) Local Driving 1 and 2nd gear do not go past 2000 RPM if you can sustain this, the mileage will go to about 12-15
2) Once on highway drive 70-75 cruising and when it goes down hill let go of the gas let gravity do it work LOL
3) When regaining speed from downhill step lightly no more "Lead Foot"

All estimate mileage is base on the FX dash

Highway I am about 65% and local 35% driving around the city and Queens in NY

Hope this helps.

Our MPG gauge only goes up to 30, how can you say 26-32? The window sticker even says 16-21 MPG, I dont think they just made that number up. Also, by pressing the reset button while already cruising on the highway of course will get you high MPG because you're already starting @ 30. You should click reset right before you leave the gas station after a fill up. I've tried driving conservatively and the most MPG I got was 19.4 (about 60% highway and 40% city).

It's actually about 26 gallons.

stick a knife in your tire, call infiniti, wait for the tow truck... infinite mpg

 .... Ash, your too much ....

Try these. Unfortunately, as I was taking the last picture, I was playing with the brightness of the display and I accidentally hit the reset button. But the Last display read, 23MPG and *** to Empty. The First Picture is when I drove off the Gas Station to the first Stop light. This is about a week after the Supercharger went in. I actually paid attention. At 80MPH about 2.5Krpm, while holding the speed, stayed at 30MPG.

As far as driving habits go. Since the SC went in, I let the 1st get it up to about 15mph, then Punch it on the Second and get to the Speed I want as soon as I can. From there, I let it cruise. My theory is that you get the Lowest MPG while speeding up, so if you can reduce the time between Dead Stop to Cruising Speed, you use less gas. (That's what I tell myself anyway)

BTW 2nd now gives me over 65MPH at 7Krpm. Don't be Hatin'

i went up .5 mpg average from 15 to 15.5 over my driving saturday. how so? well i spent alot of time on the fast roads here (i-75 and the tollway) going like 70-100 mph and just flying. i think you lose mpg when driving soft because you spend more time accelerating. once i got up to 100 i could coast for the few miles i drove so my mpg was always high. i probably used more gas though, which is why i think the in car mpg is misleading in some cases. but hey, i can drive crazy and still increase mpg, sounds good to me

WTF!!! Some one Help... My FX is turning in to a HYBREAD!!!

did you reset the mpg and roll down a hill or something? thats impressive

reset before leaving home, Drove about a 1.5 miles to the freeway. got on 405 from Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks, (all up hill). Did mostly speed limit, becuase I was running on empty. Took the picture when I exited Santa Monica Blvd, about 5 miles later.

WTF!?! Something wrong there buddy. 405 up will suck ya down to 5MPG for sure. Past Mulhulland is another story. I love when that area is open & clear at night. Sooooo Smooth

I'm telling you man. This car is an entirely a different animal. It does things that I no longer recognize. I accidentally pulled it in to 2nd on the freeway going 70 or so and it wanted more. It does 80 in 2nd Gear like it's nothing. And then when you think you should be doing like 5 or 10 MPG it's over 20. Oh BTW I forgot to mention that the Picture was taken after I realized I drove some of the way in the FWY on 4th.

I think Tadashi made switch while I wasn't looking.

Before my trip last weekend I was at 19.3 mixed hwy and streets and after my trip Im now at 21.6...........I dont rip it around either. Its mostly granny style driving unless I'm goin to a meet with some FX guys and I have to lay down the smack down.
