Garmin GPS

A local Infiniti dealership is advertising a Garmin GPS aftermarket unit that is compatible with the Radio Screen for 2006 and newer FXs. (GPS Screen shows up on the radio display). Has anyone seen or added this to their current FX? If so what is the model (does it have bluetooth) and was the install easy? They want 1280 to do the install. I thought it was kind of steep?

It was probably the Garmin GVN52. First post otherwise I'd shoot you a link, but it's on the Garmin site. I'm considering this as well as I have a Streetpilot 2880 for my motorcycle which I'm using on the dash. I'd prefer the integrated route, less cables!

Street price is probably less than MSRP ($599) so they're charging around $700 for the installation. Yeah, a bit steep. Then again, Garmin only has three recommended installers and they're ALL in California.

if you want an awesome nav setup look at the alpines, the new ones are great, one of the best navs in the business bar none, better than any oem nav... it's voice activated & a really nice setup, comes with a nice remote too. alpine developed the acura navs which is thought to be the best OE nav setup yet...

maybe quite a bit more expensive than the garmin, just throwing this out there though so you are at least aware of your options...

That is steep just for the Nav, here in MD you can get one of the best aftermarket NAVs for that cash. You should go to check out those shop that do stereo installs, the aftermarket NAVs offer so much more, nav, touch screen, blue tooth, the list is long, etc. Even some of the members here have great set ups. If you are worried about it looking out of place, the installer probably has options to give you the look you desire. As Turbo said in the earlier post, just an option.

is there anyway to retrofit OEM nav? I kind of wish I went for the Nav now.... I use my N95 as Nav on my old car and the fx is too nice to have some ugly mount sticking out of the dash for the phone

That same question has been asked a lot on the first generations, and no ones done it yet. Im sure it can be - but in the long run its just not worth it for the dollar amount that needs to be spent to get it done. IMHO its just cheaper and better to get an aftermarket.

I wouldn't mind aftermarket if the result look absolutely stock. I havn't seen any that are like that without spending crazy amount of money. Not to fond of spenting so much and than possiblity having electrical problem

what i heard from people and from the stealership is that you need to change alot of wiring and alot of stuff in the head unit

so yea like what will said it better to spend the money on the aftermarket then spending alot more on changing the head unit and wiring to get the OEM to work

I looked up the street price for the Garmin and it's right around $400 from a lot of places. I'd have a very qualified stereo shop install it though. Wonder if this would work in addition to an iPod interface...

Thanks guys. I will look around. I talked to my local dealership and the service manager told me that it would cost $3000 for the modification and that doesn't include the Garmin device:tdown:. The manager said there were a couple of Garmin models to choose from if I wanted to do the mod..but for $3000 plus the price of the Garmin device..I told him there are a couple of places I plan on choosing from besides his dealership.

Fields Infiniti in Glencoe, IL has a picture of the in-dash after market NAV. Cost is listed at $1,850. Try googling Fields Infiniti and go to their accessories page.
