Front brake noise

Just wondering, when I hit the brakes hard, not crazy hard but like a more sudden stop, there is a low grinding sound right before the car stops, not scraping, pulled the wheels and no gravel, sand or anything found, no grooves on rotor, still have the noise. Mechanic thinks it's the pads, they still have 3/8 or so and are smooth. What could be wrong with them? or what else can cause this noise?

I had a similar issue with 60% brake pad left.Turned out to be they were glazed I roughed them up with a die grinder with scotch abrasive type pad and problem went away.

yea, rotors a little glazed,

mech. said not problem, must be the pads, trying to get me for brake job? , tires are still new and even so don't think it's them.

Make sure mechanic uses ceramic brake pads. I put metalic ones from Napa on my QX4 and the rotors warped.

I noticed that when my FX was up on jack stands that if I spun one of the front wheels, for about a 1/4 of the turn it would make a slight scraping noise, almost like the noise of a broom across the floor. Sounds like I might have a similar issue.
